I've been so tied up with family crises over the past year I've had almost no time for anything else. I hope things are going well for you.
Certainly sympathize with you on the computer.
I have ubuntu ( http://www.ubuntu.com/ ) up and running on my pc, as an alternative to microsoft... offline. I'm still trying to find a way to coax it into accepting my ISP, which apparently doesn't service Linux. I'm sure someone out there has solved the problem though, so its only a matter of time. Ubuntu was deliberately created as a dedicated free alternative to microsoft.
Which leaves only the 'Jakatoa west of Krakow' problem, when, in the aftermath of a major internet convulsion like that of April 1 this year, Java responds by downloading a 9+ megabyte update which puts the pc into an irretrievable crash, making it necessary to completely wipe the system and start over with all new software, while under cover of the confusion engendered by this move, numerous former freeware issues leveraged by microsoft elements become payware that one will have to pay to reinstall along with the otherwise all new software. ...which is among the reasons why it is still important to back up everything on an independant drive if possible. Ubuntu is apparently not immune to the problem.
On the other hand, any working Linux is a step up in the world.

Sorry I haven's responded. I've been averaging three days on line per month since I don't have home online at the moment.
I've been spending very little of that time on H2, as I have to delete a lot of crap and read a few things on my ISP and the jehu mail site.
"A dedicated free alternative" to bluescreen, eh?
I hope my next computer is an Apple.
Me sick of bluescreen.
