If you want to be an ACE, just go to the ACEs homepage and ask nicely. I'm sure you'll be o.k. As to responsibility, I suppose an ACEs main responsibility is making new people welcome to h2g2. Not too bad y'see. I'm currently doing a rather good impression of a raging, sneezy snot monster smiley - yuksmiley - ill this one seems to be hanging around for some reason, and I just wish it would go away and let me be normal ( normal? me? ) again. Check ya soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

Yes, I'm feeling much better now. I've been offline for a couple of days due to decorating ( splashing lots of paint about ) my office at home. As I only drink smiley - oj anyway I've had more than enough vitamin C to fight the cold. Still a bit sniffy but feeling good none the less and ready to get back into action again. check ya soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

I find that with headphones, especially when I'm on the PC. I sit with them still on my head for ages even after the CD's finished, and then wonder why my ears and head ache! Really must remember to take them off once in a while. BTW I do drink smiley - coffee and smiley - tea as well. I gave up the smiley - ale because I was fed up with getting smiley - drunk and suffering from savage smiley - hangover. I'd much rather be in control of myself and remember what I did the previous night than have my mates relate a tale of drunken stupidity and embarrassment to all and sundry. I don't miss it at all and my kidneys don't ache for days any more (another reason for giving up ). Splashing paint about is fun, I like seeing the end result and knowing I haven't got to do it again for another few years. Check ya soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

ugh. you reminded me of headphones. i stupidly got some earbuds that i thought would be different but they were uncomfortable and didnt' stay in so i wasn't that upset when i found that my dog had chewed them up. but she also ate a loaf of this delicious hawaiian bread my mom had made. that ticked me off.
but now i'm back in my dorm room. sigh. at least i have my DSL hookup back. i didn't spend any time on the internet over the whole break since i couldn't contend with the slowness of the connection. all i managed to do was check e-mail

Woop! Woop! Hi Jane! Hope you had a good holiday, all I seemed to do over Christmas was eat far too much and put on several pounds of excess weight. I'm trying to do something about it now though, cycling, working out at the gym and at home, and eating far more sensible food in much more sensible quantities. Haven't been online much recently, but hope to rectify that now the holiday's over. Hope to catch you soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

Ahhh.... Resistance is futile! Eat the damn things then they can't tempt you any more. I'm having trouble walking ATM, over did it with the good old calf raises now they're screaming at me every time I stand up ( oops! ) mustn't get so carried away with working out next time. smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

i've been meaning to go for walks in the garden district as a more pleasant way of getting exercise. haven't gotten around to it though, dangit. now classes are starting up and i'm going to be BUSY. well, more busy. or less idle.

Long walks in the countryside are my favourite form of exercise. Sometimes just getting away from an urban environment is enough to make you feel good. I'm a tree person myself, I love wandering through woods and forests ( I sound like a hippy ). I love the peace and quiet that you can only get by being surrounded by trees that cut out the sound of traffic, or being in a remote spot like the Welsh mountains, ahhh.. roll on May holiday in dartmoor.smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

the bayous and swampy areas i've been able to walk around in here are really beautiful... you have to stay on a boardwalk though so you feel like such a tourist. it's not like you can just go out in nature... and there's so much greenery and foliage just in the city.. beautiful magnolia trees and such... getting away from campus is enough to make me feel good.

I hear you sister! Just having some green grass and trees around makes a hell of a difference, much better than staring at bricks and concrete all day every day. I think I go to the country more to get away from crowds of people than the buildings. I don't like crowded places at all, must be some form of claustrophobia I think. Still i'm just glad there are still big open places to go to smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

hey, ott... long time no write. i've been spending most of my time playing shockwave games or watchinig cartoons or something... anything but work. how are you?

Hi Jane! Long time, no read. How the hell are you? o.k. I hope. It's not agorophobia, because it depends on the kind of people in the crowd I'm in. It's just that where I live, the ordinary joe public gets on my nerves so bad that I just want to scream "get away from me!!!!" very loudly. Unfortunately people would think that this was a tad strange but if you met the average moron from around here you would probably feel the same way. This is why we have put our flat up for sale, and are trying to move out of the area. The crowds I like, are the crowds you get at bike rallies like the Bulldog Bash, or the Smoking Dog Rally. My kind of people being themselves and not judging anyone else. Nice to hear from you again, don't be a stranger. Catch ya soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrinsmiley - hug Otter.

wow, where did you say you lived?
i find most of the strangers around me fairly obnoxious too... and i'm hoping to get off campus so i won't have to be around college students all the time. smiley - groan
i'm not sure i've found a crowd i like. perhaps i have agoraphobia. smiley - biggrin

I actually live on the eastern outskirts of London. That's why we are trying to move further out, away from all the traffic, noise, hassle and idiots that seem to surround us. We are looking at houses further out in Essex where it's a lot quieter. Hopefully it won't take too long.
Students huh? Probably some of the most boring people ever to walk the surface of this fine planet we live on ( present company excepted of course! ). Having been in the same position as you ( a student ) I can fully sympathize with the way you feel. Don't worry, it won't be too much longer then you'll be out in the big wide world wishing you were back on campus. ne'mind "always look on the bright side of life" I think would be an appropriate phrase to end on. Catch ya soon smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrin Otter.

that sad idea is in the back of my mind at all times... that these might be the best years of my life. shudder. smiley - winkeye
though i've been learning a lot about looking on the bright side, or in the terminology of my meditation guru, remaining equanimous. smiley - zen

My philosophy is that there is always an upside to every downside. Lets face it, when you're down the only way is up. One of my favourite sayings is "Don't look at your glass as being half empty. Look at it as being half full instead". whenever I have been having a really bad time of things ( and believe me i've had some real downers ), I always tell myself that there's usually someone worse off than me so just get on with life and things will settle down eventually. Anyway, hope you don't get down too much and I'm always here if you need a chat. O.k? smiley - peacesignsmiley - biggrinsmiley - hug Otter.
