well... there basicaly very tiny particles of pigment held in a water based vehicle that is impregnated into the subcutaneous layers of your skin. The vehicle (and most of the pigment) is passed harmlesly through your body, just leaving enough behind to leave a permanent and beautifull design,
The oldest Tatoos were discovered on mummified bodys dragged from the ice of the alps. It's interesting that the Tattoo's were all placed above acupuncture points.
I'm sure this isn't exactly what you wanted to know! How do you pronounce stuff with a rye but winning smile in here!

What I wonder was the significance of the acupuncture points? My incomplete knowledge of medicine (esp. Chinese) is that acupuncture points are places in the body where chi 'collects' blockages in the energy flow lead to ailments in the body. The practise of acupunture encourages the chi to flow freely again and thus restores the body's natural balances.
Has it been assessed why the tatoos were drawn on the bodies in those places?
Oh it's all very interesting. I suppose it's a guide philosophy to try and find out new stuff. the cloest I've got to a tatto is an accident with a biro!
I just thought I'd pop by for a chat, I had no real idea what it was I wanted to find out. Lets see.... alright what, for you, is the most interesting thing about tatoos: The history or the practice?
And as for rye and triumphant smiles try:

P.S regarding the missing pictyure on your space. all good in theory but have you selected to display the page in GuidemL and not Plain Text The should be a little clickable thingy at the bottom the lets you change between the two when editing your page.
Also make sure that what you on your page is between the
**stuff goes here**
tags.
If you want text to appear in GuideML you will need to enclose what you write in tags - like this
Paragraphs are achived by putting a
at the end of a sentence.
Hope that helps

Thanks Clive, I've got my chicken working. Now to sort out the rest of the page!
Back to the Mummy...
Apparently the body was more than 5000 years old, so we're really talking pre-Acupuncture here. The theory is that the points were tattooed to remind the subject were to do some home acupressure when her ruematism was getting her down.
Theese points where marked with a number of short lines that looked a little like bar-codes, but she also had a zoomorphic representation of a horned animal (probably an antelope). This Tattoo has become very popular more recently with ladies who can identify with the long history of tattooed women.
Go on ask me another! I'm full of it!
I'll go and check out your site, I musn't be one-sided.
