Aside from light sprinkles and a chance of rain, it hasn't hit that hard yet. I'm thuper, thanks for asking

You are a strange man.

I doubt it will be moving back over the gulf long enough to restrengthen. The general steering winds are trying to push it northward and it would go north if there wasn't a strong ridge of high pressure over the east US which is blocking it's way and forcing it to turn back to the west.

But if Fay stalls, which it appears to have done, wouldn't the high pressure ridge sink further south forcing the storm even more westerly? Come on, I really want a day or two off work next week, and it looks like the only way I'll get it is if Fay moves this way.

The thing is, since fay is moving so slow, it will likely fall completely apart during after making landfall. It's still possible for it to move back over the gulf and potentially restrengthen, especially since that is some 48 hours in the future. But right now it looks more like it will stay mostly inland and fall apart. On the upside though the upper level support seems a little bit better than it did earlier, but I'm not convinced that it will remain like that for long. In other news there's a tropical feature that's moving across the Atlantic that might develop, probably not in the immediate future though.

I think they're running out of good names for 'canes. Srsly, Fay?

Oh but Fay isn't as bad as Bertha, Dolly or Ike...or even Nana, Teddy or Wilfred. Those names sound like rollcall at Shady Pines Nursing Home.
I saw that little system in the Atlantic, Moo. It still has plenty of room to get organized, and no telling where that one will go, but it is showing potential!
Ok, I confess. I'm such a geek. I have a special little red pen and my very own copy of a hurricane tracking chart, and I like to plot hurricanes. Not follow it on the internet, no. Plot it. On paper. Then label each coordinate with the date and time. Yup. I'm such a geek.

Oooh, I just looked at the latest computer models of where Fay is predicted to go, and now 3 of the 8 show her going into the Gulf.

I have a huge laminated map of the atlantic that I used to track systems on. I haven't used it in ages though, haven't really had the time to. btw, if you haven't already come across these, here's two really good sites for tropical meteorology:

well...you might get off work soon with Gustav churning around in the Caribbean...although I imagine if it continues on the given course (which they don't have a large confidence in mind you) it'll hit the loop current and probably rapidly intensify.

Yeah, it's really just the physical act of plotting the storms that I like. Makes me feel a little informed, calm, and in control of a very out-of-control situation if I can watch it's every move. Silly, I know.
Wow, that system in the Atlantic has now turned into Cat 1 Gustav, and appears to be heading into the Gulf. This one looks like once it hits the warm waters, it may turn into a monster. I'll keep my tracking chart handy on that one, yes siree! What does your meteorlogical skills tell you on that one, Moo?
EC, I hope you didn't have any flooding problems with Fay, and I hope you're starting to dry out some. Seems Florida got it from one tip to the other. All we got was a weekend of rain, about 3" or just over. It's gone now though, and we should have some nice sunshine today.
Moo, I liked that first weather site you sent, in fact I've saved it to my favorites list. The second site I don't understand at all. Besides the main NOAA site, I like these:

http://www.ih2000.net/ira/bmt-wth.htm
These speak in a little bit more layman's terms.

Raining livers and gizzards?!
Boys, the forecast models show this one heading into my territory. I'm starting to worry.
