Week one of the university course
Posted Oct 1, 2002
Going alright. Nobody told me we don't get tutorials in the first week here, so here I am, presenting myself for further learning opportunities, and nobody's there. Ah well, gives me a chance to catch up with h2!
So far, the course sounds great. Two lectures in and I'm still here, must be a good sign Only niggle - being such a seasoned student, I don't like all this intro stuff, I just want to get on with the course and not muck around, but I suppose it's a sure sign of my 'maturity' within the educational field. Ahem.

Happy birthday to me...
Posted Sep 26, 2002
Well, the big day's tomorrow, I'm one year older. Eep! It doesn't get any easier, damn it all!
Ah well, I've got a couple of cards already and - - I might even get a present this year!
Still got to work tomorrow though. Bah. Still, there's always the 'night oot' on Sunday..!

Figured out how to work me flatmate's CD burner, but I'm not going to incriminate myself here, oh no!
It's my birthday in 2 weekss' time - the 27th, all presents and cards gratefully and greedily accepted! I'm still a young 'un but with all this 80s nostalgia going on at the moment, I feel positively ancient . Still, least I'm legal, unlike those young whippersnappers who can't remember anything older than a Nokia 3210..!

My new favourite director
Posted Sep 9, 2002
Went to see Hable con Ella (Talk to Her) tonight.
Go see it!
But yeah, as a lover of European cinema, I was ashamed that I had not seen a 'proper' Spanish film. And after watching Hable con Ella by the hugely talented director Pedro Almodovar, what an introduction! Yeah yeah, so it was the first film by Almodovar I've seen, but after seeing the feature in Sight and Sound a couple of issues back, I knew I had to find out more.
I'm not going to tell you about the film - that'd be a Guide entry - but I strongly suggest everyone to go and see this very unconventional romance. 'Noooooo, not romance!' I hear you cry! It's not a soppy, Love Story kind of film; to give you some insight, the story centres on two men who have fallen for two women in comas. They knew these women before, of course! But while one finds out that he isn't loved back, the other grows more and more 'obsessed' with his love, with tragic results.
Want to know more? I'm not giving much away here unless you've seen it, so get yourself down to the cinema for what has to be the best film this year so far - after Spidey, of course!
