Chines Restaurants on Mondays
Posted Jul 30, 2001
Today, Monday, I was taking my usual stroll across the town square, searching for her face in the fog- Her face that I have not seen since that day in Chilmington Village, before we were called up to service in Flanders. Anyway I noted in my trusty leather-bound book that a Chinese Restaurant was closed. A lot of them close on Monday. Why is this? Is it something religious that I am being ignorant about, or is it some mass biorhythmic eating impulse that causes people not to fance takeaways on Monday evenings?

Creating Identities
Posted Jul 30, 2001
Clearly, I am not really Encapsulated Life Pod Number 3. My real name is Gareth Switchblade, and I am a moonfaced contract killer working for Professorial Gambit, on a freelance basis, because I like the free perks. At least, that is what I would like to think. But I could just be attempting to escape the fact that in reality I am somebody called Francis, who works in IT, likes to eat cake and enjoys spinning out stories about alternative possibilites. On the other hand, the skeptical response would be that I really am Encapsulated Life Form Number 3, labouring under an induced delusion that I have a life I call ordinary and humdrum and which I wish to escape from. Perhaps it is this skeptical impulse- The Cartesian Demon- that is at the root of our habit of casting identities about like they are going out of fashion.
Hmmm, this subject is a bit big for a Lifepod like me. I am going to sleep now.
