Oh, Faith loves fireworks! And Grace fell asleep while we were driving to the place we like to do our fireworks, so she was completely oblivious.

Hi my dear Paul H.

Thank you so much. I do try to apply myself, and do them three times a day. It seems such a simple thing to do, but actually, common sense tells me that it could possibly help.

I was hating the idea of becoming a non-person, not knowing who anyone was, least of all myself. Perhaps I still might, but I shall have done my best to avoid it. I have actually managed to finish a first draft of the article. It would be so nice if you were close and you could tell me what you think. Whilst a student, my best friends were always the librarians.!! They alwways knew where to find the most precious wonderful documents which helped in my research. !

Friday 17th July, 2009 19.10 BST!

With affection

Christiane

Last night I dreamed I was writing a paper about Thoreau and Emily Dickinson for an English course last night. For some reason, I was zeroing in on present-day references to them in newspaper items, to show how they are part of our culture. Strange!

Dear Paul H.,

You made a fuuny sentence - started and ended with Last night.....Well.....!! You are the expert. !!

I believe I have made this remark before. I reckon I do not dream. I am told by everyone that we all dream. The problem is that I never remember them. |I have always attributed the reason that I do not remember my dreams to the fact that I have lived such a wonderfully, exciting life - there fore I did not have to dream. It would be too exhausting to live the life I led AND then to go to bed and exhaust myself dreaming a very busy dream. !!

I think that is quite a logical statement. Incidentally did you ever study Logic? I was lousy at Maths, but loved Logic with a passion that is nearly as great as my passion for food, gardening and a host of other things. !!

I remember that at one of my Vivas - I think it was the one for Pol Phil. Hons. one of the crowd of lecturers who were examining me expostulated in an absolute fury.....

"Oh you and your Logic......"

So please do not get cross me, kind sir...

Have a good Monday - incidentally I have never read Thoreau, and who is Emily Dickinsin?

Go well,

Christiane.

I look forward to hearing your reminiscences anout your life, Christiane. smiley - smooch

I erred by putting "last night" at the beginning and the end of the same sentence. I also erred by not spotting the problem. smiley - blush

Emily Dickinson was brave enough to have the courage of her convictions where poetry was concerned. Others begged her to publish her poems, but she refused, because she was unwilling to change so much as a line of them. Posterity has shown that she was right to so insist.

Here are links to some of her poems that I'm fond of (I've set some of them to music, by the way....):
