I can't officially call you a fogey until next year, but I thought that might catch your attention. (I've got you beat by two years so don't be offended)
How are you doin'? Are you enjoying h2g2? You haven't been here long and you've already shown up in many cool threads. So since I've only been h2g2ing for a few weeks I won't be doing an official welcome just a personal one. Welcome!

Busterbone Posted Jul 25, 2001
Thanks for the welcome Elwood.
h2g2 is the most fun I've had on the net in a long time. I'm still not on top of it but am concentrating most of my efforts at the Thingite Manifesto. I don't think I could keep up with all the threads if I spread myself too thin.
I live on acreage too. Two acres of all day grass mowing north of Brisbane. I can't see how some researchers manage to spend so much time here at h2g2. Don't they have real lives??

Yoohoo! Anyone home!
(Jeez, you catapult a guy into a castle wall and how long does he hold it against you?)
Hey another old fogey
Busterbone Posted Jul 31, 2001
Sorry Elwood. Been busy in RL.
By the way you were supposed to catapult me AND my tub of jello into the wall so it would cushion the blow.

When you get to be an "Old Fogey" you kind of forget things.
Here's the jello I forgot, sorry. ::thwang::

Check out My Space.
I've added some pictures and gone Goo.
I'm still working on this GuideML stuff

Hey it looks great. Is the guy getting electrocuted you or anyone who pushes the see who's online button.
My homepage looks the same as it did two monthes ago. Did it take you long to put in graphics? I don't have much free time here at work, so anything I do would have to be fast.
Is it really like midnight there? Insomniac?
Hey another old fogey
Busterbone Posted Aug 8, 2001
It is midnight as I post this.
The pictures are in the H2G2 graphics library. You can just "copy and paste" them onto Your Space. Provided you're using GuideML and not plain text.

I'm a graphic artist and am a little too critical of the graphics provided by h2g2. They are fun, but I would rather have them allow me to produce my own. I do love the smileys though!

Busterbone Posted Aug 8, 2001
I know what you mean.
Even the smileys I think are too limited. There should be hundreds of them.
The graphics will do for my purposes though. I was just glad I was able to get them on the page.
Bed for me. G'night.

Back from camping.
My wifes idea of camping is a 5 star room at the Hilton so it was just me and the 2 kids (Emily age 6 and Oliver age 3).
Did all the camping bit - canoeing, swimming, sleeping, bushwalking.
And speaking of bushwalking I have to announce that I, for the first time in my 39 years, saw an Echidna (spiny anteater).
That may not sound like big news but it was amazing at the time.
Now if I can just find a platypus I'll be happy.

elwood Posted Aug 20, 2001
A platypus!?!! You must have been VERY lonely without your wife!
You're a brave man going on vacation (and camping yet) with two children that young - alone. I applaud you.
I just got back today from Massachusetts on the ocean with 17 of my relatives.
(I tell you my bed at home was a more welcome sight than an Echidna!)
It was exhausting with one child and two of us -
so with your situation reversed I'm amazed you survived.
Isn't it winter there and cold? A rough time to camp.

Busterbone Posted Aug 21, 2001
Winter in southeast Queensland is like summer in other parts of Australia.
It got cold at night but as we all passed out at 7pm that didn't matter.
August is traditionally the windy month but we managed to avoid any big winds.
What was the occassion in Massachusetts? Family reunion?

My parents treated the whole family to the trip. They are getting older and thought this would be the last time we could do this as a family. My sister lives near Boston and my folks, brothers and oldest sister live here in Detroit. So I guess it was kind of a family reunion.
Do you and your kids get away like the camping often? What about the child that didn't go? Too young?
