In a Dr Who episode the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) asked that question of some allegedly human astronauts to verify their identity. They were aliens of course. I nearly wet myself laughing at that...)

Hi! I shall have to ask my son which episode that was - my brother and son and I were watching, and fair wet ourselves, as my father used to ask that... My son has an encyclopaedic knowledge of such things. So, I'll get back to you on that.
Thanks for the info about the spin-off, sounds fascinating!

Hi, invisible knight..
I asked my son about the episode - it is 'Ambassadors of Death', and here is a link he found about it...

thank you
not an episode i remember but i wasn't very old during the pertwee era.
i'm one of those "mostly remembering baker" as "their" doctor.
mind you, i'll never forgot the green maggots and the spiders of (metabelis 3 i think it was?) that planet.
i think the spiders was how john pertwee's who was killed having stumbled into the tardis and on the floor at the end of the last episode to turn into tom baker.
then tom baker got the giant robot as his 1st assignment i think?
then some series of business with a time ring (you had genesis of the daleks during that) and finally the tardis was allowed to work.

I didn't have television during the Tom Baker days, but my son has bought some of the TB episodes on DVD. (He won The Sunmakers on the BBC World Service, on a Wright Around the World competition. Good stuff!)
Key: Complain about this post
