Lavender is nice, but jasmine is better, especially in the evening! Outside our door, are things which cause sneezation...

I like the smell of lavender, but jasmine looks nicer. *dreams of summer*
I’m enjoying the smell of spring at this time. There are no spring flowers yet (because the meadows are still covered with snow), but you can already buy tulips and daffodils. They just smell so wonderful!

Lavender doesn't have a very wonderful smell (though it is nice...) My favourite spring flowers are daffodils and jonquils. Years ago, I knew a woman called Jonquil.
I can see your wife's point, there is lavender growing along the street a bit along the road from us, and it looks very scruffy.
