Third draft, and can I sustain my enthusiasm? Come to that, have I _got_ any enthusiasm left? My colleague got his PhD today and I want mine too.
Time to take a more +ve slant: instead of "I want to stop this", let's try "I want my doctorate." There. I'm all focused and keen now. Ahem.
Life is beyond my control. In every respect. Sigh.

Vindicated!

Thanks to the kind support of Gnomon, Whisky, Ben, Jimster and others, my Guide Entry on The Professionals has been reinstated and I've been cleared of charges of plagiarism. Hooray!
Everyone's been lovely. I'm a lot happier now, I might start to enjoy my birthday now.

They've pinched my entire article! Flaming cheek! And there's nothing I can do to prove my innocence. I don't think I'll ever be happy putting any of my writing on the internet ever again.

The first Guide Entry I ever submitted has been deemed plagiarism and removed from the Guide. I'd never even seen the website I was unwittingly copying.
Nice birthday present.
