Guinea pigs are a great delicacy in Peru. In Syria, where hamsters originated, there seems to be no culinary tradition that uses them. Likewise Mongolia, where gerbils originated.
History seems to show, though, that people will eat rodents when other food is scarce. For instance, I could find some tender, juicy rabbits in my area if I was likely to starve otherwise.
