It's like onions - and it definitely needs good drainage. But Romania's a botanist's paradise, anyway. Apparently, Romanian Red is a very popular garlic type.

I am, of course, delighted with anything that might annoy my main character . This is a necessity for comic writing. I should have had the passengers on the Accidental Express chewing garlic, but that may not be feasible . I will just settle for a camel with exceptionally bad breath in Istanbul .

The reason why having garlic-chewing Romanian passengers isn't feasible is that I've made it unlikely they'd be on the train at all, with the exception of one who is visiting his Romanian inlaws and wants to forestall his arrival by going to Istanbul and doubling back a short distance....
