Hi paul
Excuse me for dropping in uninvited, but I just read that you may think about volunteering for some PR work in the future? May I ask if you would volunteer now? The thing is, we won't be changing anything in the near future - but we really want to have a good old discussion about how to take the Guide forward. I'd like to hear your opinions, even if eventually you decide not to take on an official role of scout or other.

Thanks for dropping in, Lanzababy.
I spend much of my spare time reading books and writing short stories for the "Short short stories" thread at H2G2. A couple months ago, I was happy to proofread articles for the Consortium. I was happy to gather people's thoughts about moderation and write a document.
I don't think I can handle the workload involved in being an editor here. My mind turns to mush under the weight of too much data, though I have a natural instinct for developing ways of organizing material (I wasn't a librarian for nothing). My other instinct is for imagining things beyond the pale, i.e. think-tank material.
When I saw the list of categories involved in transition, I didn't see anything that I really felt I could do justice to. I worked in a bureaucracy for decades. I feel like being looser and more spontaneous now.

Okay - although your professionalism librarian skills might be just what we need when we come round to looking at categorisation and developing the genres that the new Guide might need.
I don't think I meant that you take on a heavy role - I appreciate that there must have been a heck of a lot of stuff flying about. I was overwhelmed from the outset of the Consortium, and took no part in it as it was just too much stuff for me to take in.
Maybe then, could I ask you opinion about individual matters whilst we discuss the future shape of the Guide? I would really value it paul.

Hi, Lanzababy.
I would be honored to offer my opinion (opinionated though it may be ). The bigger problem would be how to make me stop once I got wound up.

paul - thank you!!! You get wound up? I cannot believe that you would. But if anyone dared to annoy you they'd get a quick from me at the very least.

It's a long way between apathetic and obsessed, but I manage to complete the circuit fairly often. I don't stay very long in the middle, though.
