What's a holler? I think it might be a cowboy thing, but what do I know?

Sorry I didn't notice your post before, ZSF.
A holler is a cry or shout. It's also a variant of "hollow"
when used in the Southern U.S. Thus, a pun. There
might be a real place called Hoopy Holler/Hollow,
and there must be some really funny people there.

Would you give me an example? I thought I'd heard of cowboy hollers from a CD I have. I'll look it out. What types are there?
