In the beginning...
..or in 1975, anyway, there was me. And I dwelled in the midlands for a little under a score of years, before uprooting to gain a higher education in Pontypridd, whose only claim to fame is that it's the birthplace of Tom Jones. Nice enough place, if you don't mind sharing the campus with sheep. From Pontypridd to Cardiff, and from Cardiff to Sheffield, which is a hell of a culture shock when you suddenly realise that road signs, notices, shops and so forth are only in one language, and one that has normal vowels, at that1(There's more about me here, if you're interested.)
