Do tell. Pull up a rocker & tell me all about it.
...*whispers...*if it's personal, i can give you my e addy.
I'm glad to hear you speak of Kelly's Island...not enough people know what's right in their own back yards. If you look up Cascade Park...I have no idea if there's a site...but that's where I grew up. I lived jussss above it whilst growing up. As soon as mama would round the corner off to w*rk...down into the park i would go!
There are prehistoric Indian handholds & caves & all sorts of cool stuff...carved by a glacier.

Scandrea Posted Aug 22, 2004
I know, glacial grooves!
I've never been up to Kelly's Island- I've spent most of my life in the southeast corners. But there's even some interesting stuff there. I could kick myself because when I came up to Akron, I found out that there was a great big ancient fossil lake deposit not an hour's drive from where I lived, and it had most of the amphibians fossils from that period in time! I think I'm going to organize a field trip, considering I've driven past it on the highway!
And... it's not that personal. It's just every time I go out in the field, I seem to end up hanging off cliffs, stuck waist deep in river mud, or hanging off a boat trying to grab a dropped $1000 piece of equipment!
I've also got the tendency to say what everyone else is thinking!

Pandora...Born Again Tart Posted Aug 22, 2004
I was just thinking that...
Never been to Kelly's?? Never to Blue Hole either??? Or Put-In-Bay???
Marblehead ???? Jusssss hit the turnpike & go girl!

Sorry! This kind of got lost in blog!
I'll find my way up there soon- maybe talk my girlfriends into going on one last road trip!
Anyway, class started for me today- got some good profs this time around, and I think my learning assistant class is going to go well. Basically what I do in there is sit in on an Earth Science class, and help them through it. I get paid like $10/ hour!

Scandrea Posted Aug 30, 2004
I know- it would have been an even better deal if I didn't have to pay $900 for the training classes!
But at least I can recoup some of that.

Pandora...Born Again Tart Posted Sep 20, 2004
$900.
I paid $23,000. per quarter.
Ooooo...I was thinking of you the other day. I watched a remarkable show about the Bermuda Triangle! Knowing how you feel about rocks (maybe you can get credit for this stuff)...scientists have finally discovered that methane rocks are the causeation of sunken ships as well as downed aircraft!
You see, they are part ice & part gas...when the rocks can no longer hold the gas THERE'S A HUGE EXPLOSION!
Anything on the waqters servace is struck by the gas &/or the huge wave that overcomes the ship! Since the ship is in motion....the bow sinks & it's driven down within seconds. Explaining why no distress calls made it out! Also explaining the sudden "fog" that sailors have witnessed! (I've been through there several times, diving, sailing, flying, surfing, swimming, etc.!) And!...a plane passing through would loos it's altimetor readings!
The controls would read that the craft waqs in a steep climb when it was actually falling!!!! The pilot, unable to see due to the vaqpor would naturally dive...causing a sudden crash into the Ocean!
They found five aircraft in basically the same area ...but they'd all gone down at different times! One pilot who ejected swore he saw a "fog" & the dials went wonky before he could radio a distress!
I'm amaze-a-lated!

Yep! I've heard of that! Called Methane Hydrate! Really incredible stuff- they're trying to find a way to mine it as a fuel resource, but it's so damn volatile, as evidenced by the boats and aircraft wrecks in the Bermuda Triangle.
Yeah, it was $900, but it was only three credits! That really stinks, for what is supposed to be a public University!

Wow. 3 credits...
Mine were 23 per quarter.
Well, someone has best find a way to mine that stuff. I'm thinkin' the middle east ain't gonna' be so ripe for the pickin's for much longer!

Indeed. Awfully scary over there
I'll tell you what, I've never been more concerned over the results of a Presidential election in my life. I'm seriously thinking about looking at schools overseas if Bush gets elected.

Hon, I've been around twicw as long as you. (<---I'll deny it!) Trust me, there IS no place safe for an American!!! Unless it's here! **==
We have the best of the best.
No other country will be able to keep you safe.
Maybe if you go to some cheesy school in the Carreabean...but then people won't take you studies seriously. It 'would' be nice...

Errr.............Derby College of Art & Technology (now Derby U); Nottingham University; Leicester University.........??
I went to all of these, and they were nice and sleepy - I mean peaceful!
I felt safe......apart from the cafeteria food, that is!

Hi Derby! I'm afraid *our* thread got wisked off to pages unknown.
There's another lady from Ohio on this thread - so mind yourself.
I'm glad to find a place to talk to you though.
I'm sure the other lady shant mind. I miss her. As well as my friend'Mo', also from near my home.
Luckily I adore men who are British-like-Types.
Say something else Derby, I love to hear you speak.

Oh, I say! That's frightfully decent of you, dear girl!
There are those that say that I SOUND like a mixture of Richard E Grant and Sean Connery. This is slightly erroneous, but I would be happy to prove it, some day.
Two of my godparents (now sadly deceased) were American (from SD, actually), so I feel 'at home', sometimes - and extremely lonesome at others. (For an accurate description of my situation, contact Batty - privately - sweet girl).
I enjoy your company..........immensely................
