Having met Gwennie I wouldn't be at all surprised if she was getting lucky a lot! She is a stunner.

This can shaker just came in - a real duck butt. Had a gigantic goober and wanted a book with home remedies. Then he tried to hit up all my patrons for change. What a doofus. Gave me the heebie jeebies.

I know. And the amaze-a-lating thing about her...the inside
truely matches the outside! And if anyone tries to say otherwise...I'll come over there & put a sign on thier eye & it'll read: Closed!
We've been friends over 4 years now...she warnd me, er, told me about you long before you & I ever 'tossed a hand up to one another' = waved hello (via 'puter style)...& she was right...I do like you.Not like those fella's are thinkin'!Men!
The fun(ny) thing is, I've gotten into the habit of kickin' her on the shin in various threads & people are forever asking why I'm so mean to that sweet Gwennie!
Hope everyone stops by the Crossed Purposes Pub for our Halloween Party already in progress!...if I had the thread # I'd post it...but you can find this month's thread on my home page. For some reason we HAVE TO change threads each month as the Pub always ends up in shambles. I have no idea how that keeps happening.

Temper tantrum?
Colloquially called a "vloer-moer" in Afrikaans
vloer=floor + moer=beating)
Dutch readers may understand better?

A word you don't hear too often now since DIY superstores opened up, is 'ironmongers', a lovely word for a hardware store.

And you pop into the chemists for a headache powder while we go to the pharmacy or drug store for an aspirin. You call a pharmacist a chemist. So what do you call someone trained in chemistry who does chemical research? That's what we call a chemist.

SEE WHAT I'M UP AGAINST HERE????!
The worst problems I have are with recipes... I have to end up translating amounts and finding substitutions for ingredients that are not available in England. I'm talking basics like Cool Whip.

The chemist is a generic term, we do call pharmacists 'pharmacist', they hold a pharmacology degree.
What is Cool Whip? Sounds a method of chastisement that has been chilled!
Mari-rae what ~are~ you doing to Kes!

I used tp be acquainted with people who did chemical research that weren't chemists. Might have even done a little bit my own self. ( I recall a concert in New Orleans back in 1971.....)

Pan, why on earth are you throwing a Halloween
party in the Cross Porpoises Pub. Those cross
porpoises don't know how to party. Trust me.

The English get into a lift to get to the top of a building, while in the US it's an elevator ... which in English is a shoe for the vertically challenged. Oh - and the English "first floor" is the US "second floor" ...

Cool Whip is like whipping cream without the calories.

And without the flavor. But it doesn't go flat immediately like whipped cream and will take the rust off of bolts.
Mari-rae, have you had a Melton Mobry Pork Pie? I have a recipe for them that I've threatened to make for my husband when he misbehaves.

I think Melton Mobry must be the name of a town. I remember you make it in a loaf pan. You line the pan with the pastry then put in the filling - which sounds disgusting, by the way - then weight it down and bake it. And I think you punch holes in the top and pour something inside. It's been a long time since I read the recipe.
I'm not a big fresh pork fan.
