I wonder how much a "pokedollar" is really worth. Are they just renaming yen, or what?
Anime
Katzii Posted Sep 18, 2004
I think that the Pokédollar sign is a spoof of the Yen. The Yen is like a Y with the two dashes through it, if I recall, as is the Pokédollar a P with the two dashes.
They just called it dollar to westernise it, but PokéYen could be cool.

Pokemon Update:
Misty returned for a two-part episode. As a Togepi trainer she was invited to a fake Togepi trainer convention. She met up with the gang and they all got along fine. May was especially impressed. However, the convention was a fake. This evil general of the Mirage Kingdom used it to lure a Togepi trainer in order to steal his or her Togepi. The Togepi paradise in in another dimension adjacent to the Mirage Kingdom, and a Togepi is needed to ascend to the throne. The princess is ready to ascend, but she needs a Togepi. Team Rocket is working for the general, and they kidnapped Togepi. Oh well, long story short, they beat the bad guys, Togepi evolved into Togetic, and Misty went home.

Katzii Posted Oct 3, 2004
What, MISTY'S Togepi? Togetic is such a better Pokémon, in my opinion. One of my favourites <3
Anime
Infinite Improbability Posted Oct 18, 2004
Yup, Misty's Togepi.
Pokemon Update:
This one was a real snore. It features another one of those boy/girl trainer pairs that have grown up together but have to go through a TR/Ash conflict to realize that they love each other. So dull, but what made it even more annoying is that their dub names are in fact Romeo and Juliet. Ugh.

Okay, THAT is tragic. Really tragic.
Oh, and sorry about taking so long to post/not being able to post... My computer went down about two weeks ago, and i'm currently on my laptop, which, let's face it, isn't very internet-worthy. So sorry if I'm a bit slow with replies here.

Pokemon Update:
Well, now the creators have realized that Pokemon just has too many stinkin' filler episodes, so now they're running TWO new shows a week.
Episode One=This is May's second Pokemon Competition as a Coordinator. She's been training hard with Beautifly and her Silver Wind attack. She's also made friends with Grace, an older coordinator who's a little ditsy but still managed to pass along some words of wisdom. Grace's Pokemon is Metachamp, a psychic type who seems to use a combination of yoga and karate to get the job done. Drew is still hanging around with his Rosellia, acting all smug and aloof, kinda like a mix of Gary and James (serious rose fetish). Grace beat Drew, and May beat Grace, earning her first ribbon (there are five major competitions, each with it's own ribbon. They act kinda like gym badges). Drew tossed her a rose as he left.
May: Is this rose for Beatifly?
Drew: Yeah, something like that.
Yup, definate immature sexual tension here.
Episode Two=The gang meets Thatcher again (he's the boy who trains Plussel and Minun). He's training to be a Pokemon Cheerleader. A bunch of kids are following this guy who says that cheering can help Pokemon recover in battle. Turns out he's just a con artist. He uses walkie-talkies to give orders to Pokemon that he's hidden in the drums. The cheering isn't doing anything, it's the Pokemon using Helping Hand and other attacks to revive the cheerleader's Pokemon. A total scam. Team Rocket has joined the cheerleaders in disguise, thinking that with the aid of Helping Hand and the like they might finally beat Pikachu. Long story short, they beat TR, Thatcher realizes that he was wrong, and the gang moves on.

Pokemon Update:
This week there wasn't much. Just introducing a couple new Pokemon, no biggie. Nothing memorable here.

Katzii Posted Nov 27, 2004
Lol, they are really running down here. but they've had loads of episodes, anime doesn't generally last for that long unless it's somewhat successful.

Reruns last week. I thought that they'd given that up for Lent, what with the plethora of episodes out there. Maybe doing two new episodes a week finally caught up with them.
Oh, I finally managed to borrow Pokemon 4Ever from the library. Cute movie. Much more realistic plotline. This time Ash isn't saving the world, he's just helping out a friend and some Pokemon. My major problem is that it features a young Professor Oak seeing Johto Pokemon, including Celebi. As of the start of the series, he should only think there are 151 Pokemon, of which Celebi is not. I did like his archaic Pokeball, though. It seems to be much more primitive since it's from 40 years ago. Kinda odd, though, how it still had the same basic "teleporter suspension" technology to store a Pokemon in there, but apparently it was pneumatically sealed so you have to turn a few screws, etc to get the Pokemon out.

He wasn't saving the world?! Egads. I haven't seen that one yet, and the sad thing is is that I lent my copy of Mewtwo Returns to someone over a year ago, never to be seen again
Anime
Infinite Improbability Posted Dec 12, 2004
Well, maybe not the world, but the forest. Apparently Celebi and the forest are linked, especially through this magic water with regenerative abilities. They even had a little environmental speech about how Celebi wasn't healing because the water was so pollouted. They had to ask Suicune to fix it, which he was able to, easily.

Ah, so technically he was still saving As long as he's doing what he's meant to be doing, that's all we care about, right? :P

I was able to borrow Jirachi Wishmaker from the library. I'm still a little down that apparently Pokemon Heroes appears before that one, but oh well...
Interesting movie. This might be the first time we see Team Magma without Team Aqua interfering. This whole idea of a Pokemon only being awake for one week every thousand years is a little farfetched. Besides, how old is this civilization in Pokeworld? Maybe they have records of the last appearance of Jirachi, but the time before that, you're still talking nomads. shepherds, pyramids, that stuff. Jirachi would be a myth, and you certainly wouldn't have enough information to know when this Millenium Comet thing would come. Silly.
Anime
Katzii Posted Jan 12, 2005
Well, you know Pokémon likes to take things to a weird and absurd level. I mean, in pretty much every other movie preceding that one, it's been all "OH ONLY ONE BOY CAN SAVE THE WORLD!!!!!".
As for the one weel per thousand years, it does seem silly, but would be more viable if they added some sort of background to that, perhaps? I dunno, never seen it.

Sorry, I didn't think I'd been gone three weeks.
The major update lately is that they showed Destiny Deoxys on Saturday morning, they didn't even bother TRYING to put it in theaters! I can see why, it's fine and all, but you really don't want to watch it more than once.
I still find the idea of an alien Pokemon odd, but I can go with it. That town was a little to mechanized for my taste. The electricity goes out and everyones locked in. The major nit I had was that Ash and the local kid stumble into the Battle Colloseum for a tag team battle. They both get scanned, and the computer knows who they are and even gives a little bio of Ash for the audience. How come it didn't go haywire when it scanned the local kid? He didn't have any Pokemon! He wasn't a licensed trainer! How did he make it to the Colloseum floor?

The series is starting to go a bit haywire, ne?
I don't think that an alien Pokémon is a good thing, really. Because really, they're all supposed to be little animals, not aliens.
The days of Pokémon going to cinema I think are gone. We only did the first and second movies in the cinema.
Oh, and don't worry - I've been having a few internet troubles anyway :P

Pokemon Update:
Well, they're releasing Destiny Deoxys on DVD now. Makes sense, really. More kids saw it when they showed it for free than probably would ever see it if their parents had to go to a theater and buy tickets. However, I don't think I've seen a POkemon movie yet that I'd consider actually buying, with the possible exception of The Movie 2000. That was cool.
On the episode last Saturday Treeko was doing his whole "sit in a tree with a twig in his mouth" thing as usual. He seems to have very exact standards about who he battles. This time it was a Loudred belonging to a trainer named Guy (I pity the dubbers who have to come up with a new name every episode when there have been hundreds of "trainers of the week" before them). Ash challenges him to a battle, and Treeko immediately hops down to battle him, to Ash's surprise. Guess who Ash would've picked?
The two square off, and amazingly, they evovle at the same time. I forget Treeko's evolved form, but Loudred evolved into Exploud and immediately went crazy. There was the usual kidnapping sceme by TR but the main jist is that Guy had to re-earn his Pokemon's trust. How touching.

This is just me being vain by making Post 200. Happy Post 200 day, Sailor Mercury! It took years and years, but we did it! Now here's a quiz to celebrate the occasion:
Who apparently has the most accurate watch in the world?
Who has the most magical hat, with the ability to be soft or hard as occasion requires?
What stone is required to make Poliwhirl evolve into Politoad?
Which Pokemon did Ash and Misty have to battle over because apparently they mixed up their Lure Balls?
How many different ways has the Digiegg of Miracles manifested itself?
Who was Yolei's idol before she met Ken?
How many ways can Sora say "stupid Tai?"
What phrase did Meowth repeat over and over to help learn "human talk?"
