I was rather perturbed to see a discussion on another thread which told someone who was ill to stop being a martyr.
Everyone has different experience of illness ,even two people with the same illness will feel differently about it. I know my recent experience of getting asthma made me feel very low because of the limitations it now puts on me.
However I also know that Serephina, for instance, has asthma, and has been very ill with it,so her experience will be different from mine.
As a person with medical qualifications and a psychologist, I have to say that no one should be saying that someone's illness isn't as bad as it is, or that just because they have the same illness, that the other person is a martyr, because no one can say how that person feels about their illness or what their pain threshold might be...the variables are endless. Sometimes the type of personality you have can affect how you deal with illness and how you recover or learn to live with it.
I know all this ,yet have found it hard to deal with what has happened to me...so please show a bit of consideration and don't jump in and snap off a reply to someone because you have the same illness and think you know what it is like, or because you might think they should be more stoic in the face of their misfortune. None of us can know what another person is going through
I was upset to see one of the gentlest people I know has stayed away from hootoo since this happened.
This is my journal and I am saying what I feel.If you read it and don't like it you have the right of reply.
to everyone.Count your blessings and take care of your friends.

You say what you want to say.. It's YOUR journal Tabs!
Also, never tell someone who is depressed to 'pull their socks up and move on!' That is one sure way of making them drop like a stone.

I was always brought up with "there are people far worse than you are" over the years I have seen this, my deepest respect goes to all.
I seem to be solitary on hootoo with my complaint(I'm glad really, wouldn't want anyone else with it), but while I draw breath, my role is to bring smiles, so beware, I'll pull any stunt to achieve that aim

I'm not really here Posted May 20, 2008
I have asthma too, but it rarely bothers me now I am finally away from traffic.
I haven't been in hospital with it for over 15 years, probably more like 20 years. Doesn't mean I don't feel for people who are suffering badly with it, or think that because I am living with mine other people should too.

prof you are one in a million and a very special person..it is a privilege to be your friend.
thanks everyone.YOu are all special in your own way and the fact you all have your own problems to deal with and can still sympathise with others says alot about your strength and good hearts.
I got emails from two other people ,one who had left hootoo because of the same person and another who had left because of a similar thing about their illness. How sad
One I think may have been persuaded to come back the other sadly is too upset but still lurks about to see how people are.
I am rather hoping the person concerned. the one whos been upsetting people, sees my journal and is ashamed of them selves for driving people away...but unlikely.
Hey the sun is out keep smiling everyone
