NuclearConfusion -Not a lot of money in the revenge business

No! Get your mind out of the gutter! Geez. It's just that either you are enough of a fan to have read THAT book by Neal Stephenson, or you just stumbled on to a combination of words that elicits a response ala 'Lullaby' (Another good book.) causing people to approach and start conversations about things at random that you have no knowledge of whatsoever. I hope it is the former case, what with time being money and all. His new book comes out the 23rd, but if you are in that first case, then you probably know all about 'Quicksilver'. Swerve.

Just wrote to say I'm on to you...

Oh, but the gutter is a fun place to dwell. I quite love it, thanks.

...as for this Quicksilver you mention. No, I had not heard of it, please share information!

okay. Snow Crash, check. You read Cryptonomicon? Great book in every sense. Quicksilver is supposed to be sort of a prequel to Crypto, but in a great-great-prequel sense. Takes place in the 1600's. Should be good though. WWW.baroquecycle.com has about as much info as exists. Don't go to Stephenson's website. Makes him look like a jerk. Swerve.

Anyway, first with the burst, with the stutter to the gutter; this is NC, saying CU.

I'll hav'ta poke my nose into Quicksilver though... Stephenson's writing style facinates me, thus my reading his stuff. smiley - smiley

Big U! Yowza, that is a hard one to come across. Fun and weird indeed.
It is probably for the best that you haven't had at Quicksilver, yet, though; as I said earlier it comes out the 23rd of September. Don't know WHAT he could be waiting for, but have already forgiven him for it.

So which was your fav? So what else you read? So, umm * So?

I'd have to say that Snow Crash remains my favorite, just because it's the first of his I've read, and it's subject matter happens to be of areas I've always had facinations with. Add into that very cool characters like Hiro, Y.T. and Raven, and how could he loose?

However, Diamond Age was much fun (the second of his I read) partially for the weird stuff that was always happened, partially for the whole further expansion on the reality created in Snow Crash.

I've also got a soft spot for Cryptonomicon because I fell in love with the weird crazy Waterhouse family. They're all crazy, all smart, and it's fun. smiley - smiley Oh, and America Shaftoe just rocks for so many reasons, the least of which is that she and I both answer to Amy (though that is the name that's on my birth certificate).

Big U has to be one of the absof*ckinglutely weirdest books I have ever had the pleasure of reading. It was a christmas present from my mom this last year.

yeah. Snow Crash was my first and favorite also.
I really liked Crypto for the style. I guess in a movie it would be called cinematography. The one sequence at the beginning where Waterhouse and Turing bike out and W sees the Hindenberg explode, but you don't know what it is until later. You get all these bizarre descriptions and strange images and then as soon as W says he "Dreamed a Zepplin was burning" everything snaps into that frame of reference and makes perfect sence. Just brilliant.
Whew, rambling. Gotta go. L8r

I'd say my favorite image from Crypto would have to be the first chapter, with Bobby Shaftoe, and they're driving, and they end up making all the money boxes explode. That was just great. smiley - smiley

Oh, and I just ordered a copy of Snow Crash for a friend for his birthday... well, I ordered it for him Monday, and it should be arriving today. His birthday being yesterday. But yeah... I had to make him read it, always talking about it, and him having not read it yet. So yeah, he's gonna read it now. smiley - biggrin

Hey
Good job about spreading the word. Fight the good fight.
I am moving today! Basically due to the fact that I got out of the Navy and therefore have no place to go. So I'm going to walk the earth. You can see all about it in my space. Anyway, feel free to write, since I will be periodically checking in from the road. Till then!

It would be great if the Airborne Express people didn't require a signature to drop off a package. Bah. The book hasn't arrived yet, because there was no one to sign for it.
