Funny you should mention that Dmitri. I also have great trouble with reading in dreams. There's of course the staring at a bit of writing, unable to make anything out ... and this typically happens while I'm again writing school or worse, university exams. Then there's the finding of a wonderful book in a library, only to turn away for a short while and then returning to the shelf and trying to find it again, to no avail. There's reading something wonderful and then forgetting it immediately, trying to recall it but being unable to. That all happens *in* the dream ...
Oh and worst of all is when I dream of having written something utterly epic, with the most amazing concepts, the most incredible plot and twists and all sorts of things coming together just perfectly ... sometimes this gets turned into a movie in the dream, or sometimes it becomes the 'story' of an entire dream ... and when I wake up I can't remember a thing of it!

Yeah, it has a bad tendency to do that, doesn't it? I hate it when you turn your head and can't find what you were looking at again.
The League for Greater Continuity in Dreams has its work cut out for it.

I bit my tongue in my sleep last night,I do this sometimes, and it really hurts, it was related to a dream, but as I rudely awakened
'with,ow, ow, argggh bit my tongue' (expletives deleted) I still can't quite place the setting of the dream
I know it is not dreams but, do you as far you know, Willem, sleep talk?
Or walk, or bite your tongue?

Do you talk in your sleep? I do, sometimes.
My sister got really mad at me once. She said I sat up in bed, held out my arm, intoned, 'Blood! Blood!', then lay back down again.
Once, I was sleeping in a camper with some little kids in Appalachian, New York. It was a Vacation Bible School summer camp behind the church building in a remote, bucolic setting. Kids finally shut up talking and went to sleep.
The next morning: 'You were talking in your sleep, Mr D.'
Me: 'What did I say?'
Kids: 'We don't know. It was in German.'
It could have been in Serbo-Croat, for all they knew...German, indeed...

My dad could hold coherent conversations in his sleep. It made waking him up quite tricky!

I sleep talk, Spiller still hasn't me let forget the time when I yelled at him to check that I had switched off a ring on the hob
In my dream I was calling quite loudly from the sitting room to the kitchen for the third time with this request.
I do often ask the kids if they have remembered to switch everything off, occasionally they have forgotton but often they and say 'Yeah' so Spiler told them I even 'sleep-nag' about switching the hob off
On rare occasions I sleep walk, or once crawl, in my dream the house was on fire, I was on my own (and in reality I was, as Hiccup was with Granny for the night) and I had to keep low, I was going to phone my Mum (?), I woke up on my hands and knees with the phone in my hand. Fortunately I hadn't phoned anyone

Hi everyone! As far as I know I don't talk in my sleep, or walk, or move. In fact I have the opposite problem. The default state while dreaming is that the body is paralyzed so as not to physically 'act out' the dreams. In my case this sometimes intrudes into the waking state, in other words I've woken up but my body is still paralyzed. This is awful and getting out of it is one of the most horrible experiences I know of. Thankfully this hasn't happened to me very recently. But some years ago it happened to me a lot.
Couldn't recall much of my most recent dreams. Night before last I dreamt my mom died in a traffic accident. Last night I dreamt of an old dream powerlifting contest in which I had participated, bench pressing 100 kg about which I was happy.

Sleep paralysis is really frightening I am glad that it is not something you have had recently
I found that leaning about sleep patterns, sleep paralysis and walking and talking realy made me manage these things. I generally wake up if I am getting out of bed and with the reverse of waking up paralysed, I don't get scared anymore, it is freaky but knowing what is happening is makes it manageable

Interesting stories Peanut and Dmitr. I still wonder just how sleepwalking works ...
Last night's dreams:
We were on holiday. At some point I had to go buy some food. I had to buy a loaf of white bread, and also 24 (why that exact number?) 'party favours' which in the dream meant some kind of dessert. I waited and waited and waited but my order never came!
There was a very weird thing with a bunch of heads, some of which were living and had 'souls' in them while others were dead and soulless.
There was a dream where I was swimming with my family in the sea.
There was a dream in which we (a bunch of people, can't remember now just who 'we' were) were working like slaves under a guy with the authority to kill any one of us. I can't remember what we were doing. I was let go for a short while to do some stuff in a compost heap; I was stacking things like bricks, embedding them into the compost heap.
Dream theme note: the compost heap in my dreams is a place in which I hide important things. Often I bury a box or chest with valuable items or things I don't want other people to know about in or under the compost heap.

Dream archaeologists ... I wonder when any of them will make it to my dreams? I wonder how they'll get to the dream compost heap after I'm dead ...
OK last night I dreamt a lot!
We moved and it was fairly rapid; in our new place I noticed that some of my books were missing; in this dream if we forgot something at the old house then it was properly lot. But I wasn't going to give up, so I searched among the bookshelves in the new house ... there were some fascinating books there. But finally I found the books I was looking for ... bird and tree identification guides ... in a small study in the new house.
In the next bit I remember, I stumbled upon salamanders and caecilians! These are things that don't occur in South Africa in real life. In the dream I was puzzled but then I looked up in a book and the book said yes, the ones I saw are indeed found in 'dream' South Africa. I wanted to tell that to my mom.
Next we were on camp or on holiday somewhere with a preacher who was young and gay. I wanted to talk to him about something, found him being operated on and anaesthetized. He was on a bed, the bed was tilted ... can't remember more.
Later we attended an open-air show. There were magicians/illusionists. They announced their intentions to fool us ... immediately something weird happened, one of them (a lady) shot her tongue out like a chameleon, it was at least a yard long! Then the first row of spectators complained about the show ... they were all smoking pot and thought that the shooting tongue was no big deal! Then there was money handed around; I dropped it deliberately down a deep pit just to the side of where I sat, which is very strange because I can use every bit of money I can get. But then ... the magicians called our attention to the fact that indeed there were no stoners in attendance and there was no money being handed out ... those were the illusions!
Then the preacher was apparently better again and he and I went to look at a giant bat in a cage. It was a fruit bat, of the flying fox type, but it was very human-looking. It had hands looking just like a human's ... these apparently were not connected to the wings.

Last night I dreamt of an old school friend ... actually I was back at school myself. There was a kind of event scheduled ... I don't know what it was but might have had something to do with the 'Voortrekkers' (a kind of scout movement we had among us Afrikaners back then ... I don't know if it even still exists), and I was excited one day to suddenly realise that it was the day of the event! A bunch of us jumped on our bikes (ordinary pedal bicycles this time) and set out to the place where the event was to be. My friend led us at first; we were pedalling so far that I thought we were getting a great cardio workout. (Dream theme: extremely long journeys on bicycle of by foot) But then my friend seemed to no longer know where we were headed; everyone ended up following me, and I did not know where it was. We ended at a kind of hotel where we stayed for the night; I phoned my parents to tell them where I was.

All I remember of last night's dreams: we (parents and I) were driving through a city; my father was probably driving the car ... except it was more like a combi, quite tall ... while I was on top of it, clinging to the roof! We were driving quite fast and I was amazed that I didn't fall off. And then we crashed the car! Can't remember beyond that.

I dreamt last night that I was in Afghanistan with Jamie Oliver. We were in a market with lot of stalls. I was rather anxiously trying to buy a pretty headscarf as I felt it was disrespectful to be without one but I couldn't find any, pretty or otherwise, so I ended up with a hat like this
http://sell.bizrice.com/selling-leads/39387/knitted-hat-with-ear-flaps.html and was hoping it would do a temporary measure
He wasn't being very helpful he just kept on pointing out what great socks there were for sale!

Willem Posted Jan 30, 2013
Well, I think a hat like that would do the trick, Peanut! If they were selling it there then they must consider it an acceptable thing to wear after all. Sorry Jamie was so unhelpful.
