Hello, B!
I get the feeling by your song that you are well acquainted with H2G2 and its history. It should come as no surprise then that an ACE would stop by and say hello.
Well, if you need anything - within reason of course - give me a shout! (Just click on my name or reply here.)
Enjoy the Guide!

Yes, I'm somewhat accustomed to the history of The Guide, although not as much as a friend of mine. I was introduced to h2g2 by a friend of mine, Afgncaap5, and after hearing some recent complaints, I invented the Boudreaux character. As you can see, though, I've dropped that character because it didn't really serve much of a purpose, and Afgncaap5 wanted me to riff some of his "adventure" threads. He said that he's currently saving the Galaxy from being blown up, and that sounded like a pretty easy way to spoof a show that makes fun of bad movies (Mystery Science Theatre 3000.)

Hello, MSTie.
So you're a RL friend of Affy's, eh? Hmmmm... isn't he worried that you'll compromise his well-guarded anonymity? Are you sworn to secrecy?
Welcome! I look forward to your commentary on the Save the Galaxy Adventure.

*A tall wolfish-looking man enters, with barely-suppressed excitement written all over his face. In an almost believable casual manner he speaks:*
Welcome, welcome. The added dimension you will bring to our adventures should prove quite enjoyable.
So ... you know Affy, do you? *eyes sparkle* Um, I have this cheque that I wanted to mail to him, but I seem to have misplaced his name and address. You wouldn't happen to know them, would you?

A fellow MSTie! And a friend of Affy! You are sure to get along well here then.
Yes, some of the Guide forums can read like bad B-sci fi. Occassionally, I almost expect to look at the bottom of my screen and see Joel or Mike and the 'bots down there. Hasn't happened yet, but I do have one of the static transfers I may need to bring in...
So, I have to ask: Joel or Mike?
And what is Affy really like?

Okay, just a reminder, I've already said that Afgncaap5 was the one who introduced me to this site. IRL he makes a big joke out of being overly paranoid, and emphasizes this by stating various humorous threats if I (or any of his other RL friends) should give out too many clues as to his existence (I particularly enjoyed the one that started out "Under penalty of very bad things,...").
But seriously, I'm well aware of his game. And while I could satiate my sadism by mentioning where he is, I actually have to face his wrath every day. While I'm sure physical harm or actual danger would be avoided, he has ways of figuring out just what to do to make a person tick. Although I suppose that this is a hint in itself, eh?
Oh, and just for the record: while I'll primarily be making fun of your adventures through the voices of Mike Nelson, Tom Servo, and Crow, I'm letting Joel be in my theatre to make comments of his own. While I don't want to get into the classic "Joel Vs. Mike" debates (those always seem to end in tears), I just feel that I don't know Joel well enough to justify things that he might say. I think that he's got a somewhat different style, and I've seen more episodes that involve Mike than Joel.
Now, I *would* be willing to get into a Dr. Forrester and Tv's Frank Vs. Pearl Forrester, Professor Bobo, and Brain Guy debate.

*looks crestfallen*
Oh well, it was worth a try.
*Gets a sly look on his face.*
So, where are you from, then?

Gw7en, Voice of Chaos (Classic) Posted Apr 5, 2001
That's an easy one, MSTie. Dr Forrester and TV's Frank, hands down. I loved the invention exchange!
Push the button, Frank.
And yes, as GL started, tell us about yourself.

MSTie Posted Apr 6, 2001
Yes, I prefer Dr. Forrester and TV's Frank myself, although I always did get a laugh out of the goings on in Castle Forrester. I remember when Pearl needed to hire a babysitter to watch Professor Bobo and Brain Guy. Hmmm, supervillains hiring baby-sitters. You know, maybe I should talk to Afgncaap5 about a plot like that. He seems to be involved on both sides of the Comic Book Universe.
And I would love to tell you about myself. I'm a carbon based life form that enjoys the odd and the unusual. Methinks Afgncaap5 found it easy to find me when he first appeared at my school. A kind of beacon that lets you find those who think upon the same line as you do, if you will.
Other than that, I'm sorry to say that I won't give you much. Apparently, Afgncaap5 enjoys only dropping tantalizing hints about his existence in real life, and suggested that I take it up. I'll give it a try for a while. He said something about a "School Of Anonymity," and that you would know what that was, Garius Lupus.

Looks like we were found out, GL. We'll just have to be more sneaky next time.
I remember the episode you're talking about with the babysitter, MSTie. That was a good one. I also liked the time they spent in ancient Rome. But I always missed the invention exchange. One of my all time favorites was the Breakfast Bazooka. ("You'll get yours, Joel!")

You're right, G7, we'll have to be more sneaky.
I have never seen MST, myself, but it's been mentioned enough that I have a rough idea of what it is about. The babysitter plot has been used here. Well, not "here" exactly. It was over on the temporary place we went while h2g2 was down recently. The leader of the villians left two babysitters in charge of the other villians. The babysitter was brought into the story by Affy and her name was Stephanie. Was that the name of the babysitter in MST, or does that name have some significance in Affy's RL? (not that I expect you to answer that last bit if it compromises Affy's secrecy - it may be something that you can say while not giving away anything).
It's raining here, at the moment, but that is because a warm front just moved through. The next few days will be around 18 degrees C.! What is it like there, MSTie?
Think that was subtle enough?
Howdy!
MSTie Posted Apr 25, 2001
Oh, the weather's not bad here, really.
And as far as I know, the name Stephanie doesn't really have much significance for Afgncaap5's real life. I think he just pulled it out of the blue to keep it from being too obvious (the baby sitter in MST3K was named Elizabeth, I think.)
So, GL, you've never seen MST3K? It's on every Saturday Morning, if you get the sci-fi channel. Unfortunately, they only show episodes from the last three seasons, but those aren't too terrible.
Any time people make fun of bad movies is a good time spent.

Very true, MSTie.
Good weather, eh... How do you like your weather?
BTW, if you are in the mood for real life MSTing, rent Godzilla 2000. I swear that film was written specifically to make fun of! A group of us went to the theater when it was released. We sat right up front and I got to sit in the Crow, seat! (Fortunately, everyone else in the theater was doing approximately the same thing we were, so there were no problems or repercussions. )

Garius Lupus Posted Apr 26, 2001
Well, I would probably watch it if I had a TV - it sounds good.
So, the weather is nice, eh? Does it get bad in hurricane season?
Howdy!
MSTie Posted Apr 28, 2001
Hurricane season? Hmmmm....
Answer 1) Oh, yeah, I've never cared much for it when hurricane season comes around. But our houses are all build specifically to withstand it.
Answer 2) Hurricanes? What hurricanes? There aren't any hurricanes here.
Answer 3) We've not had hurricanes here for a long time. We occasionally get tropical storms, but nothing that bad.
Answer 4) Man, I *LOVE* hurricane season! Everyone's running around, getting panicked, and generally causing unwaranted chaos. Terrible fun it is, terrible fun.
Unless you couldn't guess, Afgncaap5 was standing over my shoulder while I wrote this. Better luck next time.
So, Garius, no tv? This makes two people I know who generally abstain from TV during any time of the year at all. How do you do it? Afgncaap5 says its easy, but I just don't see how.
Howdy!
Garius Lupus Posted Apr 29, 2001
Darn! Thought I could sneak one in there. Oh, well.
Actually, not having a TV IS easy. There is so much other stuff to do. Especially if you frequent h2g2 There are times, however, when a tv would be nice to have. We are slowly getting to the point where we can envision having a tv again (haven't had one for more than 20 years). We would just use it for playing movies. At least that is the plan. We really want to guard against it filling up our time with mindless crap. And it really IS mindless crap - there have been studies that show that even with educational programs, people's brain waves go into vegetate mode (well, they used more scientific terms, but you get the idea). Anyway, not having a tv has worked well for us, but it's not for everyone. And even for us, it may not be a permanent situation.
Our daffodils have been blooming for about two weeks now and some early tulips are out, too. No trees blooming yet (except for non-showy ones like maples, poplars, etc), but our Redbud has tons of buds this year and is going to look spectacular. Oh, wait, I just remembered that some of the white star magnolias are out (they're sorta trees). The regular ones aren't out yet though. So, what's blooming there?

Just thought that I'd show up as a reminder of my importance in this situation. Please, don't mind me....

Garius Lupus Posted Apr 30, 2001
Your importance? Whadda ya mean? We're talking about totally innocuous things here. Nothing to do with you at all. Really.

Why, hello, Affy! How nice to see you!
We often have the TV on, but whether we are watching it or not is up to debate. Generally, it is just providing background noise while we are: reading, playing with the computer, cooking, cleaning, etc. It seems to work wel in this capacity, without the vegitative state coming too much into play.
One thing, if you simply want to watch your movies on it, you might look into just getting the TV and a VCR and foregoing cable, GL. That seems to work well for a friend of mine.
We've got lots of tulips here. Quite lovely, eve under the occassional snow from the past two weeks.
