I'm also a Half-Life fan (I play for I'm also a Half-Life fan (I play for - in theory. We've not yet played any actual games, despite having almost ten member and a website...) - do you play on the internet much? If so, my user page about Lag probably strikes a chord...
Congrats on Starship Titanic; best adventure game I've ever played.

Our HL games at TDV are almost always on LAN games, which obviously give great response with virtually no lag. Our few forays into internet gaming with HL resulted in frustration and disappointment - as they have with virtually all network games right back to Quake...so we stick to LAN games. Besides, it's much more fun killing people you know
We were just starting to get almost good internet play with our 2Mb link, but then h2g2 launched, and it was all over

Thanks!

It's true that Half-Life on the internet is seldom a satisfactory experience; most of my games have been over LANs - at LAN parties. We have great fun trying to fit five computers around one table, even more fun attempting to get all the computers working at once, and the most fun of all is to be had trying to make the longest possible chain of extension cables and plug blocks without frying something. Actually playing games against each other is fun but somehow it lacks the challenge of the other activities...
I wonder if you're played Team Fortress Classic, the (free) upgrade for Half-Life? Provided you can get at least six people to join in, it's an amazing game.
Strangely enough, I've already written user pages about both of the above...

I have downloaded TFC - mainly because the Half-Life update is very naughty and insists you download it when you do an update now.
We've been so busy recently it's been hard to get 6 or so players together...but maybe we'll try in future.

Of course, there are those of us who need a computer upgrade before we can compete at Half-Life...

Our clan finally enters a league tonight... provided some people turn up within the next five minutes, at the moment it looks like I'm the only one here...
Typical of KhL's organisation to leave things until the last minute...
BTW, I know that : - ) (not spread out) is replaced with but what exactly do you type in to get the fish symbol?
Go on, you can tell me.
Fish

roight - I'm determined to find it now!
(I spent the last ten minutes whilst the server was down (or was it....) thinking up possible
combinations)

I know what it is:
Guess how I found out? I wrote a QBASIC program to produce 10,000 attempts at finding it using all the likely characters, copied the text document in, then looked for a fish - and lo and behold, amongst the smileys, there was a fish!
Thank God for the 'Preview Message' button... otherwise you'd be wallowing in weird symbols right now...

Okay, I'll tell you. Well, I'll give you a pretty big clue: it's composed entirely of two different bracket symbols, one repeated twice. Making three characters. And it looks quite a lot like the picture that replaces it...
A suggestion

You should set up a picture of a cow to replace the following:

That'll *really* confuse people!
