why won't anyone tell you, it's just not fair. About the LAN party's, whe get 4 going each week and I swear were going to blow something up soon (no not with the rocket launcher, thats a dead cert). Still its all harmless fun untill someone hear's a thunk and their heart monitor hits the monotone, hehehe I love that satisfying sound! Don't get me wrong, I'm not a camper, a good sniper yes but not a camper. Oh and I love running arround with the launcher, whoosh boom!

Hehe... total things blown up at LAN parties... er, lots, I dunno. We've fried RAM chips, a 3Dfx card, more RAM chips, fingers... it's great fun.

Last time two computers tried to bite us, they zapped our fingers when we tried to connect them. Then one decided to vaporise 3.5 GB on its HD! Cool. It also swallowed one of my CD's and wouldn't spit it out until it had done an hours worth of scan disk (why? I don't know it just wouldn't work).

This all goes to prove that computers have personalities. The 333 had just lost its place to my 400 as fastest computer (I needed a new Mother board and case to fit that AMD 400 in) and Yoda's computer was the only one under 300 Hz (weighing in at 166), hence the massive paddy!

Hey Reaper, I lost two and a half weeks worth of completed Baldur's Gate on that 3.5 Gigs. And I lost my Starship Titanic saves, its not fair.

Hehe the most hilarous LAN Party occurance was when my mate Rob took the leaving-things-behind ethos to extremes and left his PC's desktop computery bit behind (whatever it's supposed to be called)... I'm not exaggerating on my LAN Parties guide entry (yep, that's guide entry... read it and weep. But you're supposed to laugh a bit too...)

Several of my friends' PCs work like they've been fried anyway, does that count? smiley - smiley

Wow your friends have real names? You don't qualify for the Computer Nerds R Us Club!

Why do I get the feeling that reply is going to create a ruckus?
Maybe I'll stick to the drug forums. . .
. . .Sorry 'bout that. . . . . .Probably just a fit of vindictive rage at not getting my brackets to turn into fish!

Umm. . . Bye. . .

Nonono you don't understand... I used his real name to protect his identity within the Quake II community, where he would be ridiculed for being daft enough to leave his PC behind, now under normal circumstances I wouldn't mind this but currently I'm borrowing various books from him and he hasn't asked for them back yet...

I, however, always use my actual name, even when playing games on the internet.... I guess a lack of imagination is the culprit.

My flatmate left his skateboard in Foodtown when he was coming down from mushrooms and was severely ridiculed for that.

Do computers cry when they're left all alone?

You're real name? You must have had mean parents to call you Researcher 26199. Why don't you call yourself 'Zulag scourge of the great expanses' or 'Toxhammer bringer of Earthquakes' or even ' little mary, finder of lost computers and shelterer of the homeless hard drives'.

that's all

If he tryed that on quake it wouldn't fit. So the best solution is to just randomly hit the keyboard until you get something that looks good eg:

See, and that only took three bashes!

Ah now you see the 'Researcher 26199' business is a different story entirely: this time plain laziness rather than a lack of imagination is the key. Although I think 26199 is quite a nice number, as numbers go...

My real name is David Morgan... you might see me around on Wireplay or on the internet as [KhL]Morgan - I have a really cool decal in Half-Life with a picture of me, it's quite a good likeness...

As for your idea of randomly bashing keys... I went one further. I wrote a program to combine useful syllables such as 'xar' and 'zob' and came up with... xarzob and zobxar. No, I'm only joking, I came up with loads of good names... but when it comes down to it I always end up saying 'I prefer to scare people with my reputation rather than my name', and end up just plain not scaring people at all...

But then scariness is overrated.

BTW not to brag or anything but it was me who started this conversation off long ago... and look where it's gotten now? I'm sooo proud... smiley - smiley

Ahhhh the sweetness of stumbling onto a chat about Half Life......
Just got the game, almost to the end, and addicted as hell.
I really need to upgrade my video card, though I will wait and see if prices drop
towards the end of the month.....

It's worth doing... I use a Voodoo II on my PII 233, and the frame rate is about okay... but ideally you'd have a 350Mhz or higher with a Voodoo II or better and lots of RAM.

Oh, and some friends to bring their PCs round so you can play the LAN game... you should download TFC (the auto-update program'll do this... but be warned, it's around a 25Mb download in total) whilst you're at it...

Oh, and get Starseige Tribes too, nothing to do with Half-Life, but if you're going to go to the trouble of setting up a LAN you might as well do it properly smiley - smiley.

sadly I only have a 266 with 64 megs of RAM
though when I bought it, it was the top of the heap for just over 2 weeks, so I was ahead of the curve for
26 years (in computer years)

TFC is pretty cool, though I have found online play sluggish.
I'm trying to visualize a way to con people into dragging their box's over for a party.... that will be a tough one...

but I'll try:>

My machine at home is a 64Mb PII 266Mhz with a Voodoo II.

More than adequate for a decent game of Half Life.

However, I also have ADSL so my ping rocks mightily.

I'll take you all on. Outside. Now.
