It's now about 10 after midnight on Monday, 23rd August 2005.
If all has gone to plan, then the plugs will have been pulled on h2g2, and will stay that way for the next 24 hours, whilst the staff have a bit of a strike.

I'm not sure, I think some people may be still on Mod, just glad it aint me for once.
Though it was annoyinghaving to wait 13 + hours to read what people had put. Glad its over.

I for one am hugely impressed at the way the PTB maintained an effective picketline over h2g2.
Good on em !

I mentioned this in another thread, but I think it bears repeating:
Surely from a political point of view, the more we posted during the strike, the better.
The service the BBC is supposed to supply in this case is a community website. If we don't try and use it on a strike day, that it looks to management like a minimum of disruption was caused, therefore the strike didn't achieve its aims. If, on the other hand, we posted a lot, and caused a massive backlog for the mods, then it proves that this is a well-used service, and the strike caused a large amount of disruption, which means that the threat of another strike would carry more weight.
People who post aren't crossing a virtual picket line, because we are customers, not fellow employees.

Interesting point of view KA. I purposely didn't post during the strike because I don't know for sure whether the BBC has to pay the Mods based on how much work they do or whether they're on some sort of a retainer.
If it's the former, and if plenty of people post during a strike, then I'd be very happy if I was the owner of the modding company and very brassed off if I was the BBC. If it was the latter I'd be very brassed off if I was the owner of the modding company but not bothered if I was the BBC.
Either way, I'd be very brassed off if I was a Mod unless I was getting some sort of productivity bonus.
I honestly doubt that BBC management will be looking toward h2g2 to get some kind of measure of the disruption caused by the strike.

Is that another way of saying 'talking total bxllxcks'?
No, I don't think that Auntie's management will be using h2g2 as a dipstick for judging how much disruption the strike caused, but it's possible that some grunt will be assigned to produce a report into the amount of disruption cuased to online services, of which this site will be a part.

I'm way too scard that the BBC will drop h2g2 if we cause too much backlog. That's why I didn't post.
They *are* trying to cut costs, aren't they?

They're more likely to drop something that's not popular

We have normality. I repeat, we have normality. Anything you still can't cope with is therefore your own problem

Don't forget that there is another two days of strike coming up - if the costs are too much, then they might decide to do something else for those two days.
Unless they don't get the bill until later...

I am a bit confused by GD's first post
I thought he said it was 23 August 2005
If he is right - I missed my birthday and I was planning on having a party and I am not the only one here who has missed their birthday ..

Yes, I noticed that I'd typed August instead of May. I noticed it just at the moment my left finger was released from the mouse button which had just clicked on the 'publish it' button
