Bassman - Funny how people never ceases to amaze me! Started conversation May 30, 2002
Dude, I was asked a few questions by a newbie, can you help out? (I apologise, I just cut and pasted the first 2!!)
1 how do i find ppl but their email adrress?
** I thought that e-mail addresses weren't "Public Property" at the site.
2 sum1 has told me there is a certain button which gets u 2 find out who is online quicker rather than avin 2 sit there 4 ages once the whose on line has been clicked on...but i cant find it
** Not sure if this exists - was wondering if she might be on WEB TV and getting problems - I have asked but received no reply as yet.
3) Is it possible to put a link to a specific conversation thread onto your own space without getting "Illegal use of ampersand" messages?
Thanks - in advance.... have a

*puts on Guru hat*
1) No. There is no way you can search e-mail addresses. They are private information.
2) The 'Who Is Online' button is the easiest way to check, well, who is online.
You can create a link in your space or a guide entry by using the .... tag, but it doesn't do anything different from hitting the button.
3) Yes there is. Take for example this (rather self referential) link F61824?thread=186831&latest=1
What you need to do is retype the "&" in it with "&" and it will work.
You can also enclose the whole thing in a ..... in a guide entry for further effect.

Many thanks GD.
If I were a gambling man and knew more about "The" game than I do, I might take you up on your Argentina to win thing....

I'm still trying to put a link to this conversation at The Ministry, but I get illegal characters now that I've done the "&" thing

As far as the bet goes, do I have to name another team, or just not reckon the Argies will win?

I've had a play around and posted the link on one of my GURU pages for you to copy and use as you wish.

and the code here
<./>test734258</.>
Could you post a message here to say that you've looked at / used the code so I can recycle the entry for other problem solving.

That didn't quite work, it took me to the top of the page with the post on it that I wanted, but not to the post itself.
I went to Lighthousegirl's own space and found - fortunately that it was the last time she'd posted to that conversation. I right clicked on the button that gets you to your last post in that conversation and then clicked properties and copied the URL, a stroke of genius I thought. Not so, it did the same thing when I used it.
I then tried going to the post I wanted and right clicking on the "This Posting" button and noting the URL which gave me this:
FFM84886?thread=170266&skip=3144&show=20#p2052610
I used this and found that I still didn't go to quite the right line in the postings, so tried this by a process of illimination:
<LINK H2G2="FFM84886?thread=170266&skip=3142&show=20#p2052610">THIS POST
Got there in the end Maybe I should have tried harder in the first place!!

You never said you wanted to point to post 2052610, you quoted 2052550. I've updated the URL in the test page to this new post number, and it works a treat

I don't think I initially realised that it wouldn't - at least I managed to sort it with a little further application of the old (failing) grey matter
