Thank you, Kasia, for the warm welcome. I'll keep your "help" page handy for future reference and probably use it now since I was trying to turn a friend of mine on to the site (You know, Share and Enjoy) and lost the link from the confirmation e-mail. Talk to you soon. Thanks again. Tallenred

Thank you, Timeline, for the welcome and good advice on checking out other members home spaces. As for racing tips, I'm not totally out of the loop on British racing though I'm much more comfortable handicapping flat racing as opposed to the jumps. So I'll keep an eye to the Racing Post and if I spot one that looks especially juicy (maybe not 33-1) I'll certainly let you know. Anyway, I would guess there is the opportunity to wager on the Kentucky Derby in England and, as I have watched at least a hundred two year old races here so far, I would be pleased if you would consider me your "Kentucky connection". All for now, talk again soon. Yours, etc. tallenred
P.S. Not familiar with the term "double carpet"

We all make mistakes (as the dalek said falling of the dust bin)no offence taken (will call of the hit men in the morning)
double carpet is what the bookmakers call 33/1 over here i am not that sure why myself.

Thanks for calling off the heavies. I'm going to get to the bottom of this "double carpet" business. Say, I've never been much into sci-fi, more into history and historical fiction. Just read a book about the Apollo space program that damned well read like science fiction at times, (The onboard computer on Apollo 8 took that crew to the moon and around it a few times with a memory capacity of some 30,000 bits of information!), anyway, always needing something good to read. Got a suggestion?

You mean Sci-Fi or another books also?
Do you know 'Good omen' by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett? A good one about, what happens when the Antichrist is born but don't wan't to destroy the world at all.
Another good one: 'Bridget Jones Diary' by Helen Fielding - a good about neurotic 90s women and they try to survive in a 'brutal' world

Yeah Kasia, another books, other books, any books recommended by a good soul who loves to read(You taught me about these things, kid) It's just that I had noticed that Timelord is an aficionado of the genre. "Good Omen" huh? I've heard of this Terry Pratchett (I'm a Terry-I like people named Terry-we are a brotherhood, even if he happens to be a she) Something about carpets. I live in a rather old basement bottomed with a "lush pile" and I've always wondered what goes on down in there. A bit wary of co-authored fiction but, what the heck, I'll give it a go. Always up for a good yarn about an antichrist gone bad...good? As for the Fielding book, it goes on my list too, but how about equal time for us neurotic 90's men. I have to walk these same mean streets ya know. Bye for now and thank you.
P.S. And K- I'm totally with you-the Goo is Good!

Sorry to take so long to answer but my computer is playing up have had to use a libary to reply.
If you like history and a good story have you read any of the flashman books? there are about 8 of them flashman and the dragon, flashman at the charge, royal flash, and of course the first book flashman(you could count tom browns schooldays as the first but that is not like the flashman novels and was by a diffrent person)very good books.

No problem. Sorry to hear your computer is under the weather, hope it gets well soon. Yeah, I read an article about the Flashman series recently in the New Yorker magazine. He sounds like a bit of a b*****d so I should really enjoy them. Is it best to read them in order or is it like O'Brians Aubrey/Maturin series where you can just start any old where?
Tallenred like read much!
TIMELORD Posted Dec 23, 2000
I think you can just about start with any flashman book there is a bit of an order but each book is a story by its self (a bit like the bond films) they are told as he wrote them in is latter years(yes i know they are fiction) so you now that he lives and i would not use the word bit more like a compleat and utter.GREAT BOOKS.
