Thanks.
BTW - I was looking at someone else's homepage recently
and saw their 'QOTD' notice thread and tried to find some
from the links you provided. Of course, the FP link is dated
and changes 'daily' but the thread link only goes to the entire
page where the posting occurred.
In the case in question it was clzoomer who had QOTD and on
the linked thread page he had at least five postings. It was
impossible to tell which was the selected quote.
Not to sound ungrateful, but may I ask if it would be possible
for you to post a link directly to the specific posting.
I remember doing this once or twice in other circumstances in
the past by right clicking on a post and selecting 'open in
separate frame' or 'open frame in separate window' and then
copying the resultant URL.
But...
I just tried to do that again to show a sample and google chrome
is telling me 'this site is not encrypted' and doesn't offer me
the option to open just one frame as a separate URL.
I suppose with so many skins and operating systems since the advent
of Pliny and with so many different browsers available no one method
will work across all platforms especially for those not using frames.
Ah well... just a thought. Because it would be nice to be able
to click to the specific old QOTDs on demand.
I'm sure you don't need this; to hear complaints when you're
already working so hard to provide the QOTD service. I understand
you also maintain an Archive collection of old QOTDs. Perhaps you
could also post that link in each announcement.

Err.. the link in my post is a direct link to your Quoted post. If I click on that link places you post at the top of the screen.
Admittedly, I'm still using Ripley, and I don't know how it works out in Pliny.
Hmm. Pliny ignores everything after the question mark, and doesn't resolve the stuff before it right either.
Okay, before I go any further, are you using Pliny? I'll try to work up a correct link if you are.

Nope. I'm an Alabasterd-in-Frames kinda guy.
(Old dog, new tricks y'see.)
Because, in ongoing conversations Pliny doesn't show
where one left off. Y'hafta go to the first post and
then scroll thru to what is new or go to the 'most
recent post' and scroll back to the last post read.
Bit of a pain after years of Alabaster convenience,
which always goes to the first of any 'new' posts so
I guess I'm just spoiled by that and refuse to
upgrade to the newfangled skin.
Say, don't worry too much about this. You have said
that your links 'should' go to the specific post and
that's all I was looking to know. It ain't your fault
that in Alabaster it just goes to the top post of the
page the posting is on 'somewhere'. We can't expect
whatever Pliny trick you're using will work in the old
skins - y'know the old saying, "If it ain't broke, break it."

Right, I've just had a bit of a play, and it seems like it's the frames that is making a mockery of my links. The other method is to force the page to start on the specific post, though I generally prefer to show the posts in their original content instead, however this link should do the job:

Hey that works.
But will it work across all the old skins with and without
frames preferences as well as Pliny. You have enough to do
without needing to search out what skin each of your quoted
persons is using every time you give them notice.
I applaud your efforts and team spirit.

You have today's Quote of the Day as well! Your Quote on the Front Page - http://www.h2g2.com - this time is: Every January 20, penguins everywhere, suddenly find themselves becoming conscious of themselves and of their surroundings and circumstances. They begin asking each other deep existential questions like where am I and how'd I get here and why is it so damn cold.
