I thank you for the codes. But I'm at a loss how one would be able to have editorial control over the content displayed on an official working 'reply' page. Where does one put the code to have it appear when someone hits 'reply'? I have to assume it is possible only on a thread of one's own creation off an entry of one's own creation.
It also looks like (which I hadn't seen)is for a different application than the . Again, where does one put this code?
I can understand making mock facsimile pages of official h2g2 pages and perhaps putting them up as entries or circulating them via e-mails. I have seen such parodies of most h2g2 'official' pages, but actually adding them to the real McCoy pages is most devious and clever. I am surprised anyone can crack into these pages and make such changes. My hat is off to thee and your hacker friend Emmily.

Just stick the code between and at the beginning of your page.
I hesitate to propogate this information, but you're one of us.

Ah, it is because the conversation in question is a reply thread off your personal space. You can't really do that to every h2g2 conversation thread, just the ones off entries you create. Assuming it will work on all entries you create not just homepages.
OK and do I understand correctly that the full code includes both 'paragraphs' of it? Are and two separate functions or part of the one?
I understand the specific message can be changed but I haven't seen your first message anywhere, so is one for replies to the Self Introduction section of the homepage and the other for replies to your Journal entries?
And it goes just between and at the head? Not also between them at the bottom? How delightfully asymmetric!
peace

it works on the message space on the personal page, after clicking "leave a message" or after clicking on a thread of messages. It does not work on threads started on someone else's space.
the two statements are separate statements (you don't have to use them both), they go at the beginning of the page (they could probably go at the end but you don't need them both places).

Thanks for taking the time to explain.
Still not sure where one would see that first message appear. I've only seen the one that comes up in replying to your conversation threads.
Sorry if I appeared grouchy or critical on this subject elsewhere, but I do have legitimate concerns about the effect this device might have on newbies and younger readers.
I was particularly pleased with my landmine analogy. And I leapt at the chance to take the moral highground being somewhat pre-judgemmental of those who indulge in such careless and irresponsible behavior. The idea that I might become a moral leader captured my imagination for a moment and seriously weakened my other intellectual functions, most especially my mature and cynical sense of humour.

I agree with your concern. I'm struggling with my moral sense and my humour sense right now. My humour sense is probably going to win for a while.
The first message shows up if you leave me a new message. Or else if you open up one of the threads that's already started in my message box. I can't remember which one is the first message.
One comes up if you open up a thread from my list of messages, like "wha. . ?" for example. The other comes up if you leave me a new message.

Now it all makes sense. Thanks.
I plan on trying out a new Entry just to see if it works off other self-created A-number pages besides one's own homepage entry. Now if I could just think of something guaranteed to be funny to everyone without being potentially offensive or frightening to anyone who might stumble by.
Oh well...

I don't know if it's possible to make it completely safe: One person thought I was stalking her and I'm sure that would have been her reaction no matter the context of her name. Fortunately she understood once I showed her the code. (one wonders if anyone else out there didn't leave a worried message . . . . Oh, there's that pesky moral sense again.)
Key: Complain about this post
