Hey Jake,
Did you know I/we spent ages 4-21 living in Da Village, a couple blocks from Washington Square Park? Prepped at a prep-school there, while we were Punk (that was an interesting social interaction...), and then went on to Wellesley?
You do now. Of course the dates on NYC do not overlap with you at all, since the family moved there in 12/1965, and I got out of The Home and went to summer school at the Yale Summer Language Institute in 1981, before going to college (2 years off being a Confused Person between class of '79 and college). Graduated Wellesley with a BA double major in Sociology and Religion, which all my friends' MIT boyfriends wanted to know 'what are you going to do with *that*?
Then moved Out West, where there were no relatives within 1500 miles, found grad school and later inertia. Denver was kind of a shock after N'Yawk. Uh? Stock Show? That's got something to do with Wall Street, right? Nope. This is cattle country li'l lady, and them stock are *live*.
Just dropped in to say hi, and to thank you for your contribution in helping things turn around for me here.
Arpeggio, for LeKZ

Hello,
Funnily enough, that's where I live now, on Thompson Street between Bleecker and Houston, just a few blocks south of the Park. Of course, the neighborhood has become a little bit more gentrified (and filled with bars catering to visitors from Jersey), but I'm still in a dingy rent-controlled apartment, so it's not completely different like the East Village and SoHo have become. I grew up in DC on the other side of the punk harDCore scene, so I've dabbled in that (and Goth a bit and Industrial a lot). And it's funny we both went to school in Boston as well, although I feel a degree in Sociology and Religion sounds fascinating (which shows you how different I was from the usual MIT crew). I've been out to Colorado once. Those mountains are impressive, y'hear? Which reminds me, your entry on Colorado is rather nice.
Thanks for dropping by. I'm glad things are better for you here now, and I'm glad that ugliness is behind us. I'm looking forward to see what cool things you'll write for the Guide in the future.
Yours,
Jake
