Alive but Shaken

It has been a horrible day, filled with many increasing shocks and nightmares that won't end. I am down in New Orleans for a conference and trying desperately to get back to New York. Thankfully, my girlfriend, family, and friends are all alive, but I am grieving for those hurt and killed in this tragedy.

The attacks are over, but there is worse to come. We will almost certainly see economic and social effects for years to come. Many great companies were obliterated almost instantly. I hope we can avoid crackdowns on social liberty or crippling depression, but it's up to us to move forward and rebuild from this disaster.

No Longer a Scout

This is just to inform anybody who has noticed why I am no longer a Scout. Over the last few months, I've seen too many conspiracy theories to keep track, so I figure I should be clear about it here. Firstly, it's my own decision, and not a suggestion or slight from anybody else. It's not a decision I have taken lightly, and it's definitely not something I am doing as some sort of protest either. It's merely an effect of me not having that much free time ahead over the next few months. I simply feel that I would not have been able to do my Scoutly duties to my own satisfaction, so I moved aside to let some new eager volunteer step in. I will probably still see you all in Peer Review in the future, and I'll still be acting like a big know-it-all in the forums, the only difference is that now that I won't be making 3 picks every month. But now I might be able to scrounge up enough free time every so often to start writing my own know-it-all entries again. smiley - winkeye

Back Home

I'm back, but not entirely happy to be back in the polluted, hot, and crowded city. It was beautiful and serene out west. Still, I will adjust to the culture shock and soon be as right as rain again.

Off Rusticating

I'm off on a little jaunt to Northern California (around Eureka) for a little bit. So don't be alarmed if I don't get back to you for a little while. Anyway, I'll see you all later.

Shameful Day

Today they're going to execute Timothy McVeigh. While he is an evil man, the pomp and circumstance for his execution is downright barbaric. I'm not sure how anybody could support the death penalty after today.
