cold/rain/winds due ? I've heard this one before

There's a hurricane in the Caribbean again.

But here? It was sunny and hot - I almost got sunstroke at the parade today. Two hours and a blue sky, wow.

saw it on our tv news, another killer one hell of a hurricane season your having this year

Yeah, nobody needs another one right now.

El Nino's hasn't started yet and he's worse

I don't know anything about that. I realised I kept thinking, well, they're up to N...but I don't think it stops with the alphabet.

Yeah, we had fun. Kids, especially.

the fun only stops after all the kids have grown up. Then! the boredom sets in, trying to find stuff to fill the time-gaps that are left

This hasn't happened yet. But then, I spent all day loading funny stories and pics, and playing around with the h2g2 Post...bunch of old kids...

Also, I spent the day trying to ignore the 'holiday' we're having. Which, as usual, they're all arguing about.

It's Columbus Day. Because somebody a long time ago (probably an Italian) made up this nonsense about him. Not Cabot, or Hudson, or any other explorer, just Cristobal Colon.

It's always been an argument. The argument used to be: Columbus didn't 'discover' America. First, it was already there. Second, it had people on it. Third, Leif Eriksson got there first.

Ah, no, yelled all the Irish. It was Brendan. Then somebody else claimed it was King Solomon or the refugees from Lost Atlantis, or the Mormons...you get the idea.

Nowadays, they've found out what a jerk Columbus was. Which historians already knew. Now they want to rename it Indigenous Americans Day, which I think would be a great idea. Or just call it 'go out and look at autumn leaves day', and give a whole month to the Indigenous Americans, who deserve one.
