...I'm praying that y'all can see this gem from John Oliver which mocks the Sunshine State:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NpPyLcQ2vdI

In case I haven't said it enough lately, we are forever grateful to the UK for sending Oliver our way. Seriously, we don't know how we'd manage these days without him.

Two things stuck out in this video: the guy rampaging in a liquor store with a loaded alligator (or at least the guy was loaded), and the fact that 'Way Down Upon the Swanee River' is actually the state song of Florida. Shame on you, Stephen Foster. That goes double for your map-reading. I'm laughing so hard I can't stop....

As for that governor and the rest of that board, I'm thinking they'd better hope they have good answers when they come before another review board....one that might say, 'Inasmuch as ye have done it unto the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.'

Just sayin'.

PS What really annoys me? The implied assumption that all those convicted felons would vote Democrat, so the politicians should keep them from voting. I'll bet they wouldn't, either. I'll bet quite a few of them were card-carrying Republicans before they got caught. smiley - winkeye

PPS If you can, spare a thought and/or a prayer for the Carolinas. That is a big hurricane, and the Hoggetts are headed into it. Fortunately, the wedding is in the Appalachians...

Florida Sailor All is well with the world

I don't think you can live in Florida without a sense of humor smiley - smiley

The good news is that Rick Scott is in his last few months as governor (term limits), on the other hand he is running for the US Senate smiley - erm with no term limits smiley - shrug

The alligator was not released in a liquor store, but only a convince store where the strongest thing sold is malt liqueur (strong beer).

There was a movement a few years ago to change the State Song, but most of the others were a bit on the sappy side.

>>The implied assumption that all those convicted felons would vote Democrat, so the politicians should keep them from voting.

On the other hand is the opposition to having to show an ID card to vote. I have never been allowed to vote without one. I have even had my passport denied because it did not show my local address, even though it is one of the documents that is supposed to be acceptable on the sample ballot.

As to the felon amendment, I will have to read it first, Florida amendments are seldom as clear as they want you to believe. We have already had one thrown off the ballot by the courts this year as it combined off-shore oil drilling with state control of charter schools!

I will keep the Hoggetts in my thoughts, the rains may be heavy in the mountains, and supplies may be short with all the people fleeing the coast. May God keep us all safe from stormssmiley - grovel

Amen. smiley - ok

Seriously, I thought you'd get a kick out of that segment. smiley - winkeye

I said the same thing about state songs. They always want to replace them with something some local music teacher composed, very high-minded and boring. But state songs, while catchy, can be very, very silly...of course, nobody's is as bad as Maryland's. smiley - laugh

The Pennsylvania song is epically awful:

It might sound good if you were drunk enough, which might explain the legislature....I like the hyperventilating groundhog in the video. They should put that groundhog down and leave it the heck alone.

smiley - sadface I'm sorry about that. I'll know better next time - unfortunately, I can't find one that you can see. You can try 'John Oliver', 'felony disenfranchisement', or 'September 9 2018'.
