hi friar! long time no see (virtual, of course). i have a chicago question for you
i'm going to be seeing a show at the royal george theater the second week of september. we're planning on driving up during the day, having dinner, seeing the show, and heading back the same night. i'm wondering what kind of area the theater is in (it's on north halstead if you're not familiar with it), if there is easliy accessible parking or if it would be better to park somewhere else and take transit. i was also hoping you could tell me if there is any major construction (silly question, i know) that's going to make it difficult to get to coming from hwy 55 north.
any advice you can offer will be greatly appreciated!

Here is a start:

Parking stinks, but might be a tiny bit better a bit south of the theatre. Only a bit. Luckily, once you park in the neighborhood, you shouldn't have to take your car out until after the night is through, as there are many great restaurants and bars around there.
Best advice call the threatre, they may have a deal with some parking company (still expect to pay between 10-20 for parking if you can't find a street spot).
Sorry, but I avoid 55 regularly so I'm not sure if there is construction, but check here:

Basically take 55 all the way to Lake Shore Drive. Then go North to north avenue. There is a little bit of a shimmy getting around the North Avenue exit, but once yo're through that it's only a minute to Halsted.

Ps. Have fun! Also, good thing it's not THIS weekend with all the holiday traffic

thanks friar!
after some discussion, we've decided to stay overnight and head back on sunday. according to one of the sites i saw, it's not a far walk from a stop on the el, so we'll probably leave the car at the hotel and take transit it'll be cheaper than parking anyway
