Hi there Flyguy, welcome to the Guide smiley - smiley How often do you get to fly? It must be such an amazing thing to do, recently I discovered someone on my course hoping for good weather because he's training with the RAF today, I'd love to try it if it wasn't for the fact that I'd be terrified!

Anyway, I'm an ACE as my name says. ACE in case you don't know already stands for assistant community editor, and as such its my job to officially welcome you to the site, and to be here in case you have any questions etc. So feel free to fire away smiley - smiley

Some places worth checking out are

Happy hiking!

Thanks for the warm welcome. What a unique site ! I have just switched my page to GuideML, and added a pic.
I was going to say you really should try the flying thing, but then the perspective thing kicked in: why does everyone want to convert everyone else into what they are ? If you wouldn't like it, don't do it. (but it's conquering the fear that makes it exciting.) I have never been as frightened as the first spin we did (with my instructor). Then we went on to do 6 more, and a spiral dive. Now we do one every so often just to keep in practice.

I played the old InfoCom H2G2 text adventure (still fire it up sometimes) but got stuck on the second spaceship trying to prove I was more intelligent than a screen door.

Looking forward to an enjoyable experience at h2g2. Say Hi to Doug for me.

didn't answer your question...I haven't flown in months now, because the house needs a new roof (read $$$). Before that it was about once a week, in the air for about an hour.

Thats a cool picture smiley - smiley

The thought of doing spins in a plane is very attractive. But then there's the recollection of the last commercial flight I took; I was fine & didn't get sick or anything, but when the plane rolled a little for whatever reason I was trying to fight the "OMG is it meant to do that!" thought...smiley - winkeye

But yes, doing spirals must be nervewracking the first time. I watched a program on TV recently about the Battle of Britain, focusing on about 3 people who remember it. One of them talked of a pilate doing a very showy exhibition, so much so that when he landed afterwards, there was grass on his aerial, he'd flown upside down so low!

Weeeeheeeeeeeee!
I love flying too! Had the incredible good luck to get to go stunt flying in a fighter jet last winter, a kind of unplanned adventure that I had always wanted to do but never thought I would realize. One of the most intense experiences in my life! But almost passed out from the G's, til I remembered to BREATHE! So incredible, to look at the ground above my head, everything moving so fast but so smooth and quiet. Hope HOPE HOPE!!! to do it again, sometime.

Anyway, just popped in to drop an unofficial welcome, and say have fun flying around here. Plenty of great places to land! smiley - smiley
