I keep getting these notices that Yahoo Photos is closing, so I guess I better start thinking about what I want to do about it.

Their email says they also run Flickr, since I've been happy with Yahoo I thought I'd check them out. It says "basic membership" is free, but I can't see where it says what the capacity of a free account is versus a paid account. And on their comparison page it doesn't look like they offer much in the way of support to free accounts.

I'm already signed up with Webshots but don't have any pictures there yet. I started that membership thinking I needed to in order to download pictures from the site, but haven't managed to figure out how to do that either, so I'm concerned that it might not be as user-friendly.

Can anyone recommend their photo site? Pros and cons? Capacity? Fees? Or anything in favor of or against Flickr or Webshots?

Thanks!

Now that I think of it, I should probably have put this in Ask - or at least looked to see if someone else had already done so...

I'll giĀ“ve you a link and maybe you can find out for yourself?

Edward the Bonobo - Gone.

Yahoo bought Flickr, so Flickr users like me had to get Yahoo accounts. Are they simply tranfering Yahoo photos to Flickr?

I'm glad you asked smiley - smiley:

They give you a choice. A one-time offer to move all of your photos to the photo service of your choice.

I have no idea what to pick either, bro. Flickr didn't look like it had unlimited space for their free account like Yahoo did. I have to make a choice very soon, but I don't know what! smiley - erm

How much space do you need, though?

My understanding is that Flickr has a decent amount of space overall, but you have to pay if you want to upload tons per month. I only use it to show selected photos, so it's not a problem for me.

Well, I don't need room for *thousands* of photos, at least not now. I can't say that my collection won't eventually get to be that size. I've probably got between 400 and 500 now.

There are photos I like to share publicly and link to from here, like vacation pics and meets, other miscellaneous stuff, but I have kids, too, so I have lots in private albums to share with family so I don't personally have to get three or four prints of every picture I take.

I've had a look through your album before, Ed. Very nice smiley - ok. You must have a very impressive garden!

The only drawback to the premium Webshots account that I've seen is that they have a limit of 150 albums.

I had to start a 2nd account recently for that reason.

You might explore the free Google option.

smiley - blush They're not from my garden. They're from various places, including florists, but especially from this place about a mile from my home:

'least it did last year. This year it's been too damp to garden, so it looks more like a jungle.

In the end I went with Snapfish, because I remembered I already had an account with them, and I was running out of time.

Then I discovered that Snapfish doesn't have public albums, or at least, none that I've discovered yet.

So I'm still looking for something else.
To be fair, I haven't actually had the time to investigate the available options, so it's possible I'll still go with one of them.

Loved the photos of your garden, Edward, especially the one of Poop hiding beans. Too cute.

Well - unless you have millions of photos to upload every month, the easy option would be Flickr. Beyond that, you slide down the cost/benefit curve of choosing the very best one vs spending time thinking about all the possibilities.
