Hey! One pound lost, at least! Remember, you'll build muscle and that's heavier than fat ...

Measuring inches is supposed to be a better judge of progress than the scale.

Lady Chattingly Posted Jan 26, 2007
I lost my tape measure so I can't measure inches.

I don't want to go anywhere near a tape measure!
The medical department at work is starting up a 'biggest loser' group next month. It's $10 to join and the top 4 losers get a cash prize.
I have to admit the money doesn't really inspire me much, but the competition is an aspect I hadn't considered.
Currently I'm experiencing a setback.

Having Mother with me has thrown my walking schedule for a loop. And I'm already stressed and am eating more than I should.

Ack!
Maybe ... can you ... stay away from anywhere that provides those unhealthy foods?

I thought you ladies were of the opinion that size doesn't matter, it's what you do with it
I'll get me coat.

But size really does matter.
I was sick for most of last week and successfully avoided the gym completely.
But this morning I managed to get in on the competition, so I guess I'll have to start avoiding other things.
- like donuts on Thursday mornings
- and taco salad at the cafeteria
- and Cadbury Creme Eggs (well, maybe just one...)

Well, more than a week in, I think I'm doing pretty well. I haven't actually gone back for a weigh-in (because I don't work on Wednesdays until next month), but I feel like I'm doing well. I've been a bit more consistent about the gym, I'm planning on sneaking out of the office after lunch today, actually.
I've been eating better with the odd setback (last weekend I couldn't resist wings from Hodaks (local chicken specialist)). I've been using Slimfast most days, which really does keep me from feeling hungry, but then I realise that I like to snack on stuff when I'm bored, whether I'm hungry or not. So I've been staying busy trying not to get bored.
I was patting myself on the back last week after the snowstorm, I got out and shovelled the porch, walk, driveway, and street behind the driveway by myself. I gave myself a pass on the gym that day

Good job, Broe! Hang in there. I am hanging on a plateau--not gaining, but not losing either. I think part of the problem is not being able to get outside at all. It has been so cold here...
We are eating healthier though, so that counts for something.

A couple of weeks ago on my days off work, I took the baby to the mall and walked a couple of laps (without going into any of the stores, even ). It's warm and it gets you out of the house. I noticed a lot of other people doing the same thing.

My other St. Louis friends "mall walk" all the time. My problem with that is we have to drive 25 miles to get to a mall so that we can walk there.

The Midwest is noted for yucky, humidity filled, hot summers. We have more humidity here than we did 30 years ago. I blame the increase on the farmers' use of irrigation--especially the pivot type.

Emee, out from under the rock Posted Feb 19, 2007
I have mixed feelings about irrigation systems. On the one hand, they increase crop yields. On the other, they deplete aquifers faster than the water can filter back into them.
broelan jones's diary
Lady Chattingly Posted Feb 19, 2007
My main objection to irrigation systems is the depletion of the water table. If irrigation is here to stay, and it looks like it is, it seems to me that flood irrigation is more practical than pivot--since a lot of the water from pivot irrigation evaporates into the air. Besides that, some of the pivots water the roads. Flood irrigation requires more work and has to be monitored more closely, but IMHO, it's still the more practical of the two.
Sorry I took up your diary space for a rant about irrigation practices.

Continuing the topic drift, if the water table here gets any lower we're going to start having a lot of sink holes.
I'm stuck with my weight loss, too. Must get serious about it again.
broe, you're like I am.....when I snack it is very seldom because I'm actually hungry. Eating is about a whole lot more than hunger. Look at all the events we celebrate with food.

I've had occasions when I put something in my mouth and have no idea what it was or why I put it there. Scary.

I watched Oprah yesterday which inspired me some. And I've nearly convinced Mr B to try to eat better with me. It's so hard to do on your own when the rest of the family is sitting in front of the TV with oreos and pringles.
