Hi Kasia - glad you're here - you can help me coach the others with their pronounciation for the Weihnachtsoratorium.

Hello, I'd like to join your illustrious Alto section if you'll have me! I currently do alot of singing in the bathroom, or in the car if I'm on my own, but once upon a time I was actually in a proper choir with conductors and organs and everything. My fondest memory is a vague one but of a piece I recall as 'Dyson in D' - if this means anything to anyone I'd love to know what it really is.

Not as far as I know, we don't. You can use it for warming up, though, if you like. Will have everybody collapsed into giggles for the rest of the practice, though!!
Jauchzet! Frohlocket.!
I have just spent a week translating pop songs into German as a part of a project with a group of school kids. All girls of around 14 and 17. It has been most revealing, finding out how well English fits to music, and Bach - in fact all composers who wrote anything with words in German - must be doubly clever, because it is so hard to fit to music. Just try translating "It's my life" which is really pithy language and singing it in German - you have to add a few syllables and then it loses its oomph.

Herrmmm.... I have noticed that about the stupid 98 Degrees song("One Night(Una Noche)")... I commented on how lazy the stupid Yankee boys were for not using MORE Spanish... then I realized that the few lines I knew from the song would have that too-many-syllables problem. Oh drat!!!
Sounds like a great project, though!!!! Do those young girls swoon over Bon Jovi like I-- errr... like people I know!??
He's NOTHING compared to RINGO!!! OOOOOO BABY!!!!

No, actually they haven't shown signs of swooning over anyone. Has it gone out of fashion. There's 18 year old boys walking about the school - I'd give my right arm to be 14 again! I have let them choose the songs they want to do and they have gone more for Britney Spears and Spice Girls. The hardest one so far was Blink 182, and the most productive was TLC "Don't go chasing Waterfalls". The girls are very serious and hardworking and have each done 3-4 songs under their own steam. I almost feel superfluous. Bon Jovi is in his mid-thirties - I don't think they even think about swooning over someone that old. I'm told Craig David is all the rage but he doesn't do any thing for me, in fact I find him rather revolting. And Raemann is also very very popular here - I find him rather off-putting to look at, but having worked on a couple of his songs, I might change my mind about him.
Sorry Ottox, we're chatting in choir time here.

Welcome to the choir Elly, you have been added to the list! :-) I have no idea what this 'Dyson in D' is, but I know that if you wonder what towel Dragonfly is talking about, then you should have a look at her page or at http://www.h2g2.com/F54162?thread=77723&post=660739 :-P
