You can call me TC

Hi Milla - I'm putting together an entry on the Royal families of Europe, as the Brits seem a bit under-informed on the subject. With some luck, I hope to make the front page simultaneously with Princess Victoria's wedding.

Of course, living in Germany, we have plenty of information about the Swedish Royal Family. But can you help me with

1. What do the Swedes think of their royal family?
2. What is the yellow press like in Sweden and how do they treat the Royal Family?

I've just posted the same question to Titania. Who else can I ask?

Hmm. On just a superficial think...

The wedding was less of an event than I remember the royal wedding of king Carl XIV Gustaf and queen Silvia.
Yes, plenty on tv, but people weren't constantly talking about it on coffee breaks at work as I had expected.
Perhaps because of the media, there is so much coverage on all sorts of celebrities anyway, and Victoria just doesn't seem to be a scandal-generating person.
There was the diversion of princess Madeleines unfaithful fiancee, and her trip to US. She has come to be known in papers as "Madde" (common nickname here for Madeleines) which seems to me disrespectful.

There is more open criticism of the monarchy as such, but less criticism of the individuals. My morning paper had a mini series (or maybe just one article? Not sure) with fictional interviews with Victoria Weatling some 15-20 years in the future. Well written piece, on how her father had gotten ill, and how the royal siblings together had decided to give up their royal titles. Thought provoking, but still quite respectful towards individuals.

(it was indeed a mini series of articles, link to first in series, in Swedish)

Need to do some other things now, come back with more questions if you want!
