Beware of foreign blessings ...

Post 1

Rev Nick { Only the dead are without fear }

Especially from some probably certifiable Canuck Reverend. smiley - laugh

I have meant to call on you for gerbil-years now, but never got around to it. I do apologize for stepping into the pencil shaving thread, but it caught the eye.

Anyway, I am not quite as insane as 'some' un-named folks hereabouts, but I do have my moments. Once I have finished packing for a two-week work travel to Nova Scotia, and securing a half dozen domestic considerations, I will get back to you.

Meanwhile, feel free to listen to random Arlo tracks ...

I do recall some fun occassions, during the 4 years I lived there. And I was even sober for the most of the time. smiley - laugh

You may have misunderstood ... That's Newfoundland, where you're obligated to knock back a few shots of Screech before you're allowed off a plane or ferry. smiley - biggrin

Hmmmm, New Brunswickers do like their brew as well. Maybe it IS something in the name, eh?

Uh, no. I may have enjoyed living dangerously in my younger years, but I was never quite insane. smiley - laugh

When I married the 2nd time, the Lady was not only military but also a smiley - chef. Being so very skilled with sharp implements, I have a world of respect for her. smiley - winkeye

Have you seen the movie "Under Seige"? Coincidentally, we are watching it just now. And Steven Segal is proving exactly why no one should underestimate a military smiley - chef

About 30 nuts manage to take over a fully armed US battleship. So of course, Mr Segal saves the world with the occassional aide of a cutesy stripper. (Everyone needs such an accessory, of course)

smiley - roflSounds more like a reminder of why I don't have a television than a reason to respect smiley - chefs... And of course, it's a very accurate depiction of life aboard a battleship smiley - tongueincheek

But I've been watching terribly bad German science fiction, so I can't complain smiley - laugh

Nearly 2 in the morning, so I'm off to bed. Enjoy the movie, hope to see you around tomorrow!

Hey, you was up early. A joust at dawn, perhaps? smiley - laugh

I later saw that there was quite a kerfuffle about the site, based on the same old ravings of one chap. Now I've been named and assumed to be everything from a troll to the PY, and even then I ain't gonna let simple words on a screen bug me so bad as it has a couple of others. I do hope atleast the smiley - mouse returns. I don't go for all the stuff she writes, but some is quite enjoyable and quirky.

smiley - laugh I just keep waking up *before noon* these days - I must not be a proper student smiley - winkeye

There's not a single researcher on this site about whom I can honestly say that I enjoy everything they've written - and that includes me! But that's no reason for childish name-calling, especially if you know someone is sensitive.

As I told lil, my best advice would be to remember a good German proverb for these situations:

"Was kümmert's die Eiche wenn sich die Sau dran schubbert?"

(What does the oak care if the pig uses it for a scratching post?)

I like that thought. Maybe because I sprang from a lot of generations of Germans. smiley - doh

About the only author I have enjoyed consistently is SWL, and that's probably because his innate quirkiness tickles me just so. Though his piece on Mohammed had me scurrying through my Qu'ran to help him. smiley - cdouble

Some folks will simple be heartless and mean-spirited, and others a bit to sensitive. I guess my own upbringing and then military time just tanned the hide enough. Still, I hope the smiley - esuom sees sense and returns to writing.

I think it's a good sentiment to keep in mind no matter your background, substituting baobabs and warthogs if needed smiley - winkeye

Bravo! See, that's what I'd like to see more of in PR, people helping like that.

In Fizzy's case, I can see why she did it. RL has been difficult for her lately, so she can't afford to stick around here if that's going to drag her down, too.

If you have a military background, you can appreciate not wanting to fight on multiple fronts smiley - winkeye
