To tea or not to tea...
Malabarista - now with added pony Started conversation Jun 14, 2011
I know eating and drinking at the computer's a bad habit. And now it's caught up with me. I spilled a cup of tea on the laptop - hence my lack of posts lately...
Let it dry out for two days, and it does seem to be starting, but the screen is fried, and hooking it up to an external monitor didn't seem to work, either.
So I'll have to find somewhere to repair it. Fingers crossed, please...

Do you have sugar in your tea? Apparently sugar eats laptops (like 2legs)

No, no sugar, just milk, which is bad enough. The HDD seems to be fine, but the tea ran through the RAM and I think the screen is short-circuited. I'll leave work early today - everyone else is taking part in a meeting after lunch that I'm not in, anyway - cycle back to the house, fetch the car, and go to Coleraine to find a repair shop.

Hope its save-worthy
#2 did the same a year or so ago. Someone took it apart and washed the innards out for us but only after they'd left it a week for the to curdle.

Risking carrying more clover to Ireland...
Hope you can get it sorted quickly, expertly and cheaply.

Expertly maybe... But the motherboard seems to be fried, so the only option is sending it back to the manufacturer for repairs.

Is that a fried motherboard with chips? Doesn't sound too healthy...

Motherboards are never fried. A short circuit just blows a component or two. These chips cost a couple of small denomination coins to replace. The transport, diagnostics, packing and call centres cost a lot more. Then there are taxes, insurance, advisors, consultants, foreign holidays, people who want to rob you....
