Hi Bagpuss
The tournament is down to it's last 8 songs. If you're interested in participating here they are.
Pick a winner of each of the following match-ups by the end of the day Friday:
Bracket 1
16.Love is the Drug – Roxy Music
7.Johnny B. Goode – Chuck Berry
Bracket 2
1.Satisfaction – The Rolling Stones
14.Bridge Over troubled Water – Simon and Garfunkel
Bracket 3
1.Jailhouse Rock – Elvis Presley
3.Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Bracket 4
9.Brass in Pocket – The Pretenders
14.Once In a Lifetime – Talking Heads
Then everyone's votes will be tabulated and we'll come up with our "Final Four"!
Thanks

Okay, I was meaning to have a look at that page since I saw it in your username. Unfortunately, my knowledge of music isn't that great, so I don't know Love is the Drug, Brass in Pocket or Once in a Lifetime. However, that means I can still vote in brackets 2 & 3, so:
Bracket 2:
Bridge over troubled water (definitely)
Bracket 3:
Jailhouse Rock (close-run thing, though)
Is that okay?

That's great thanks for participating!
Thanks
(you're either really old or pretty young I'd guess - not knowing the eighties stuff but knowing the sixties songs)
There's still 2 rounds left can I bug you again>

Does nearly 23 count as young or old? During most of the 80s I paid little attention to music beyond Rod, Jane and Freddie. (are you British? If not, that won't mean much to you).
Feel free to bug me again, but if you like I could subscribe to the Tournament page to save you the bother.

No bother I'll let ya know when the next round is on!
23 is young to me. I'm 42. But you're no baby anymore.
I've no idea who Rod, Jane and Freddie are. I'm american - which means I've no clue about most things.

Rod, Jane and Freddie were regular singers on the kid's TV show Rainbow. They weren't very good.

But remembered fondly!
(they have to better than Teletubbies which England sent over here to torment us parents with young children)

I can't stand the Teletubbies. Unfortunately they're popular with students for some inexplicable reason. On behalf of the United Kingdom, I apologise for the Teletubbies.

Apology not accepted just take them back please!
By the way take Barney too! I know he's our fault but he's 100 times worse than Teletubbies!!!

Bagpuss Posted Feb 17, 2002
Why should we take Barney? You admit he's your fault and anyway we did get Hugh Grant to beat him up in Nine Months.

We must have walked out on "Nine Months" too soon and missed that glorious moment! Drat!!!

I didn't think it was too bad. Actually the dinosaur was called "Barry" or "Barty" or something, but it was fairly obvious what they were getting at.

Oh, I didn't realise we were there yet. Again not knowing Talking Heads' song is a problem - if I weren't on university computers I'd get it from Napster or whatever the current one is. I'll vote for Chuck Berry over the Rolling Stones because I never thought the stones were that good.

Thanks again.
The Talking Heads are great if you like 80's pop alternative. They have a african poly-rythmns and a goofy style. Worth a listen.

I am aware of them, but I haven't really listened to them and so haven't much idea about individual songs. Oh well, if they make it to the final I'll just have to leave it.

No need to worry Elvis blew them away.
HERE'S THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH!!!
After 62 matches the final two left standing are a bit of a surprise to me, being that they are both from the very beginnings of Rock n Roll in the 1950s. There is an arguement for many other songs to be here other than these, but somehow it seems fitting that two of the founding fathers should face off for the title.
So here goes-
Johnny B. Goode – Chuck Berry
vs.
Jailhouse Rock – Elvis Presley
Thank you for making this so much fun!

They wouldn't be my top two picks from the original list. Anyway, I'll vote for the King (wait, you don't vote for a king, do you?).
