40 mins? Ah, I see, you checked it meticulously
At least you had the bricks... one of our exam rooms has breezeblocks, meaning far less counting opportunities, while the other is painted!

That must be awful! Otherwise if you have a calculator on you you can use the random button to make your birthday come up. I got as far as 29, 4 but didn't get 87
Languages
Vamster Posted Jun 18, 2005
That's a shame, 87's the best year in history
Yesterday I wrote my French CV for work experience in september. I don't really know what they're going to do with it, it's only shop work so my science as-levels aren't going to be particularly relevant, but never mind...

Yeah. everyone has to do it at our sixth form, which is actually quite rare I think. But there's about 7 of us going to France to do it (some people are going to Germany instead).
It should be good. It's in the south west, near...near... Perpignan I think
7's not a huge number by the way- it's supposed to be near compulsory for anyone carrying on next year, and yet only 7 out of a bout 20 are actually going. Mind you, some do German too.
Languages
Michael Posted Jun 18, 2005
That is pretty rare, still the south west is nice, make sure you visit Bordeaux, lovely place
There are 20 in your french class? we have 5, me and someone else don't go to the lessons as we speak fluently
Languages
Vamster Posted Jun 18, 2005
Now, that's what i call rare you should move to our school..you could make a nice little earner just, you know, helping peopl out with the more difficult bits or the course from time to time...
No, there are about er... I'd say 17 in each class, with two classes, so 7 is pretty small
Languages
Michael Posted Jun 20, 2005
17 people in each class. Two classes. Of French? I didn't know it was that popular.
As for the little earner thingy, I accept cheques but not credit cards
Languages
Vamster Posted Jun 20, 2005
I think most of my class would be happy to give you cash!
Well, generally it isn't, but we're a pretty big sixth form, attached to a grammar school (for which I failed the test), so it's quite good really. but like I said, most are dropping it anyway.
We've just started on an introduction to literature..i.e. watching a film, lol. It's "Au revoir, les enfants" Have you heard of/seen it? and in our other class we're slowly reading short stories from Guy de Maupassant (sp?), starting with "Deux amis" Only, I think I missed the end of that one by going to my maths exam today...
Languages
Michael Posted Jun 21, 2005
That's the right spelling for GdM, haven't heard of the film, I had to do coursework on a film called Jules and Jim, which was tedious.
How did your exam go? Tomorrow is the start of a manic 6 exams in 8 days, 5.5 hours of exams tomorrow, though luckily one of them is French
Languages
Vamster Posted Jun 21, 2005
nasty Well, good luck with that! that's really inconsiderate timetabling, but the French should be a nice... break for you
Never heard of Jules and Jim either I've definately missed the end of that story
It was ok actually, could've been a lot worse. I was expecting either a complicated binomial expansion or a tricky geometric question, but both of those were as starightforward as they could've been. It's just a waiting game now...*starts to chew finger nails* no, I just don't think about it really.
Languages
Michael Posted Jun 23, 2005
well there's not much you CAN do anymore except wait. Still, if it all goes horribly wrong (which it shouldn't) you can always resit.
General studies today wrote a little bit then left. French was easy (as expected), and philosophy and ethics wasn't too bad. Three left before I join you in the waiting game

Physics unit 5 (hardest physics paper, I actually need to work pretty hard for it), pure 5 (hardest maths paper, ditto) and synoptic paper in philosophy and ethics.
Joy.

Yr.12 further maths finished today , so my mate is much less stressed now and one guy in the class is having a party
Languages
Michael Posted Jun 30, 2005
yay! party!
FINALLY finished all my exams, handed stuff back in today. Might go out tomorrow, but definitely on Saturday with my physics group.
I don't think anyone in year 12 is doing further maths, so I was the only one in my school
Oh and the exams went all right, except maths, but I finished off with a really nice paper so I'm happy. Its starting to sink in that I now have nothing left to do
Languages
Vamster Posted Jul 2, 2005
I'm very happy for you
"nothing left to do" v.jammy. It's all go here. this time last weeks I was on theIsle of Mann, thursday I returned from an amazing trip to Oxford, y'day I did a little music festival thing and today my evil twin sis has gone off to the Alps. Next week I'm off to Cambridge, and between all this I have to tidy up my revision stuff and do my bio practice crswrk!
Phew *wipes brow, exhausted* It's been fun though
that must've been tough, being the only one. did France put you ahead in maths? My russian mate is ahead in some parts
i was not invited to the party
Languages
Michael Posted Jul 2, 2005
Not invited? Simple answer is gatecrash, just wait a coulpe of hours, then everyone will be too drunk to notice anyway
So you considering applying to Oxbridge? Or just having a look round for a laugh
My technique of clearing up revision stuff is finding a suitably large bin. That got me in trouble this year when I needed to revision AS philosophy and ethics, but it felt good so I'm okay with it
I have never been to the Isle of Man, what's it like? Glad you enjoyed yourself anyway
Languages
Vamster Posted Jul 2, 2005
no, I was going away the next day, otherwise I would obviously have taken that course of action, lol
er... how shall I put it? Applying for a laugh. I'm going to try for French tho I don't what with, because I've only done one language @ AS. Know anything about linguistics?
Yes, a bin will definately be involved, lol, but twill have to wait until tomorrow, as have been lazy and Live 8-captivated all afternoon!
Mann was beautiful, no doubt about that on the sunny days, with clear Irish sea water and lots of life(like giant jellyfish), but a tad quiet We were kept v. busy
Languages
Michael Posted Jul 4, 2005
Yeah, I applied "for a laugh" as well, actually got as far as the interview
Sorry, don't know much about linguistics, maths and physics is my area, however if I'd been rubbish at those I'd probably be doing languages, I really enjoyed them. Hopefully I'll be able to find some groups at uni next year
I watched a bit of live8, though I went out in the evening and missed Pink Floyd & Paul McCartney. Might get the DVD (if there is one) just for that.
