What are you looking for in an alternative site? Large readership? Enlightened readership? Editorial style?

I like the "2"...
What you might consider is to try it (or some other site) out and (if)when the get sorted here you can just port them back here. On that site as on this one, you have the rights to your work. I don't see any problem with having copies of your writing in multiple places.

Except for when somebody steals them. As I have recently discovered some dodgy websites are doing with my Guide Entries.

Cool old Guy just returned from searching the WEB
"I have not looked for 'Everything2' but it is often referenced next to h2g2 as Encyclopedia site.
So far the leaves me alone on DebIan, any other XP in the house seems to get caught."

I wonder if this is mostly an XP issue. We have no issues with Windows 8 at our house. Which is good news for .

Good question Icy. I suppose I really like what should be here on h2g2, but I'm just fed up with it not quite being available.
And clearly everybody else is fed up with it, for various reasons. My Happy Birthday hootoo conversation and tit's Party one only got about 20 posts beyteen them.
It's a project which really has reached the end of the line.

OK, I've tested it on Android, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Debian, and in all of them I get the same problem. It's not an operating system issue.

Then I guess the answer is the one my late father always gave me when something didn't work. It's a piece of Appalachian folk wisdom.
'You're not holding your mouth right.'

I know that removing a link to a Turkish (official government) website caused an entry to get past the Captcha. So did removing an umlauted letter u. I also suspect that the word "mosque" is a trigger, But on the other hand, I created a document with mosques, terrorists, ISIS and lots of other stuff and it sailed past.

I'm guessing that today's extended server downtime was to enable the technicians to implement a fix to this problem.
Sadly I'm not a good guesser.
Anyone tested it, on the off chance?

I managed to get my Dolmabahce Palace entry past the Captcha by removing the name of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk from it.
Ataturk was the subject of one of the first big internet spammings - there was an internet vote for the greatest man of the (20th) century. 8 million votes were cast, and 5 million of them were for Ataturk. So presumably this name is built into every spam filter on the planet.
In this case, though, the entry mentioned Ataturk perfectly validly, as he died in the Dolmabahce Palace.

Just stick a stray character in there, so it won't read, maybe?
I vividly remember passing my colleague's German class door in Cologne and hearing him yell at the Turkish students, 'NEIN! We will NOT be celebrating Ataturk's birthday!', followed by Greek cheering...
Nothing against Ataturk. My favourite quote of his involves his explaining to men in Turkey what a 'hat' was, and that they would wear it, thank you, so people would know that the country had entered the Century of the Fruitbat.

I'm declaring war on the Captcha. If certain phrases are what is causing it to reject my entries, I'll heavily disguise them.
As a curator I had to do this many times when I needed to tidy an Edited Entry that already had a profanity in it.

Gnomon, I hope that you will share anything you find useful as you go about this. To be forewarned is to be forearmed. To be eight-armed is to be an octopus .
