Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Dec 21, 2012
I'm off with my family, my wife's three brothers and their families to Florida tomorrow. We're going for 2 weeks, so we'll spend Christmas and New Year in a nice sunny climate. We're going to Sarasota, a small town just south of Tampa Bay. They get 361 days of sunshine a year and the temperature should be in the mid-20s.
We're keeping to small presents only so that we can bring them all on the plane. In addition, it is daughter El's birthday tomorrow, so Iz has got a number of small presents for her which she is going to give to her at 2-hour intervals on the plane.
There's no shortage of good shopping in Florida, but I'm not really a shopper, so I'm more interested in seeing the sights. We'll probably head down south to see the Everglades and the Keys on the 2nd of January.

Have a great time! I hope the weather lives up to expectations.
And remember: if you encounter an alligator, don't try to wrestle it yourself. Leave that to the professionals.

This is Elektra, Gnomon. Have a great holiday and watch out for all the nasty Florida fauna that have big teeth.

I hope your happy, we are having our first real cold snap of the year! It shouldn't last more than a few days though. The frost is supposed to stay well above Tampa Bay, but it is still going to drop below 60F here, 16C.
Keep us posted on your adventures, if you really want to see the Everglades I recommend the Tamiami trail (Tampa-Miami) also known as US 41, Everglades City and Chokoloskee are next to each other on the western edge of the Glades. The city of Miami is about two hours to the east with nothing but 'Glades in between. The air-boat tours are fun, but they are not cheep! Interstate 75 crosses a bit further north, (Alligator Alley was the old name) but there is not as much to see.
You will be about an hour south of me.
Have fun!

Have a lovely time.
Our kids would never have gone on holiday with us at that age! Mind you, we never went anywhere as exciting as Florida.
