Gnomon - time to move on Started conversation Nov 20, 2009
I'm heading off in about 45 minutes to drive to Roscommon, (about 2 hours drive) where we will be singing Messiah tonight. (Sacred Heart Church, Abbey St, 7.30 pm).
There's been a lot of flooding in Ireland. Cork is closed (that's a city of about 120,000 people!) due to flooding, and there are reports from the west as well, but I've heard nothing about flooding in Roscommon. We'll hope for the best.
Tomorrow night will be more relaxing - we're going to see Bill Bailey in the O2 (Ireland's biggest indoor venue).
Then on Sunday night, my other choir, the Gaudete Singers, are singing in St Patrick's Cathedral, a lovely programme of a capella numbers on the theme of "Vespers". This will include the World Premiere of Lucis Creator Optime by Andrew Cooke, who sings in the choir. We'll also perform Stanford's Magnificat, a wonderful 8-part piece.

Next time, can you give us some warning of these wonderful events?!?
People keep coming back from Ireland and enthusing about how wonderful it is, so one day I shall really come to hear you sing. I know, I know, I've been saying that for years, but sometimes I do things spontaneously...
Anyway, drive carefully. Will you be on your own in the car or will there be someone to look out for you?

I drove carefully. I'm back now. It was just me and Mrs G in the car. That sounds like a song.
TC, I'll give you plenty of notice of our Monteverdi Vespers which we're doing in the spring.

Bill Bailey was great!
And so was our Gaudete Singers concert tonight. I thought we sang very well. Unfortunately due to wind and rain, we had a very small audience, but those that were there really enjoyed it.
Now I have a lull - we actually have tomorrow evening off!
Next Thursday I'm going with the girls to see Yes performing in the Olympia. Then next week is our busiest week with two performances of Messiah in St Patrick's. The following weekend, we have carol singing on both the Saturday and the Sunday, then about a week later we have our Christmas Carol concert.
After that we can settle down to preparing for Christmas.

I thought the audience tonight was nicely packed. There was only room for sixty and there must have been fifty there!
Nice gig all the same.
