h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

We're going to New York on Sunday, for a week. I've never been to the Big Apple before, or indeed any form of large fruit, so it'll be an exciting trip. We'll do all the tourist things such as exploring the coffee shops, see the Statue of Liberty, coffee, the Museum of Natural History, the delis, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the coffee shops, possibly Ellis Island, a concert in the Avery Fisher hall followed by coffee, a show on Broadway... and so on. There's a Halloween Parade on the 31st.

We'll be staying with Mrs G's cousin, bless her, who lives 30 minutes by train from Grand Central Terminal. Everything in Manhattan appears to be within easy walk (nothing more than two miles) of there, so we may not even need to go on the subway.

I'll try and give a full report when I get back.

Just be sure you don't forget to visit the coffee shops

You'll love it Gnomon, my brother and his wife went earlier this year and can't wait to go back.

He bought two beautiful 3 piece suits out there for 120 dollars and they are really nice, so take loads of cash and replenish your wardrobe on the cheap.

Unfortunately there was a mixup with their other giveaways, so I ended up with a poster of Prince's Greatest Hits and a CD of British Molluscs.

I got an answer right on University challenge last night alhtough one of the definitions wasn't 'the name of one of the most prolific researched on H2G2'.

That sounds great! It always sounds such an exciting city. I'll look forward to hearing about it when you get back.

I wish I had family in such exciting places! Spain and Tasmania are all I've got, and neither appeal enough to me to leave the dogs behind.

Grand Central Station is amazing in itself! You can see why it featured in so many movies.

We had no intention of inviting ourselves to stay with this decent individual. We just e-mailed her to ask could she recommend a good place to stay in New York. She did.

My only real acquaintance with Manhattan is a 3000-piece three-dimensional jigsaw I have of it. I built it many years ago, but I haven't had the heart to do it again since the September 11th atrocity. I couldn't build the twin towers, but I couldn't leave a space for them either. Perhaps a trip to the place will sort that out.

I have an open invitation to stay with my aunt in Spain, but only if I go with my mum I think!

My dad's cousin in Tasmania has said she won't come back to England again now my Nan has gone, but that we can put up a tent in her garden any time we like.

Perhaps you could treat yourself to a new 3D jigsaw?

It really is lovely when people open their doors like that. Of course - it's also lovely when one shows visitors around one's own town.

Avenue Q is excellent - I saw it when it came to San Diego this summer. Very highly recommended.

I think you will see many large fruits - and nuts.

But beware of strangers bearing grifts.
