H2G2 is really going downhill
frenchbean Posted Feb 8, 2006
I think John Cage was about right.
And we all have a darker side. It's whether (and when) we chose to show it or not, which determines our social acceptability - online or in RL.
There are h2g2ers who irritate me, but generally I chose not to engage with them. In my book they are entirely entitled to be who they are and I am entirely entitled to walk away and gently avoid them.
When I first arrived here in hootooland, I was very disappointed with the level of debate and the pettiness of the bits of the community that I found. I almost abandoned it immediately. However a couple of folk persuaded me to look around and see what else was here.
That's when I realised that I don't have to be in integral part of the *whole* community, in all its facets. We can all pick and chose which threads to visit - which ones we want to contribute to - and on which ones to lurk - or even unsubscribe.

This is something that comes and goes in hoo too. It depends on the state of a person's mind at writing. It is important to express all our feelings how and as we may.
There are so many depressing things going on in the World "we" sometimes act and feel in ways that later on "we" realize were just a figment of our depression.
Can't you give the others a chance?

Haven't they had more than one? Aren't there an awful lot of people in here who claimed to have had the same negative experience? At what point does one put one's foot down?

One doesn't put one's foot down. One steams in with positive energy and helpful words. Jump on them with both feet.

Does anyone know if Lord Wolfden has left the site? He's unsubscribed from all his conversations.

I think he was suspended again - there was mention of that on one of the threads in his space. Don't know how long for though.

That information is not posted onsite by the italics, but I suspect it was the continuation of behaviour that has got him suspended before.

Well perhaps he will learn not to do it again.

That wasn't funny.

No, it was. LW has had many chances to change.

no, it wasn't. Don't make fun of ANY of the members on H2G2

I hate to butt in, but I have always thought that being able to make fun of other hootoo researchers is one of the main reasons many people hang around this place

Hmm yeah I suppose so, but that doesn't mean they have a right to be antisocial. They should just join the EA or something and have mock fights with other associations.

Hi Navigatorblack
I think you have the wrong sow by the ear. (It is an imagery not literally meant). (We Danes have to be very careful with images and words these days )
I wrote this earlier in the thread, and in my opinion it still stands:
>>Elentari has really impressed me. She has taken responsibillity and tried very hard to entice polite if not friendly behavior and to coax contributions rather than destruction from researchers who were drilling themselves and each other down into a hole.<<

Tartaronne.
Perhaps it was a little harsh. But in my own defence, this is LW's fourth or fifth suspension - he keeps being resuspended for not changing his behaviour.
Also, I wasn't making fun of anyone, and I'm not sure why you think I was.

Anyway, I don't want to argue about it, it's well-trodden ground with all of us, I expect.
I was a little harsh, and I accept that.
