They know who they are. Or at least, if they listened to their answering machine they would.

Hopefully it's someone with a bad memory rather than someone ignoring you completely Gnomon.

It is someone who talks to me regularly, but who is covering up the fact that there are things that they are supposed to be doing with a façade of cheerfulness.

Could there be reasons for their behaviour which aren't obvious to you? Still, it's really upsetting when friends and loved ones aren't honest and open.

Without being able to attempt a guess at what could possibly be the cause of this, I still find it disturbing. At least you have not left the site. That really would be upsetting. Whatever it is, let us hope that it's patched up by Christmas.

It's not really anything to do with h2g2, TC, except the fact that the other person involved looks at h2g2 regularly. But it is affecting my mood. I'm feeling really bad about this, so I'm reluctant to do anything here on h2g2. I've deleted most of the small entries I was half-heartedly working on, and I've unsubscribed from most conversations, as they all seem so pointless.

This does sound serious.

One of the only downsides of on-line friendships is that there's often not an awful lot we can do about a situation 'by proxy'. I know smileys seem trite and can be too easy to post when you see someone having problems, but I hope you can get the message that they're not 'empty' images here... People _do_ care and are showing it the only way they can via this limited medium.

I've decided I've done as much as I can. I can't live this other person's life for them, so I'll have to just get on with my own life and let them pay the consequences for their inaction.
